wassup guys im kinda knew around here and i just bought a 92 frost white gsr and i’m getting ready to invest in a whole new exhaust system from the header to the back, including a new hi-flow cat. I have narrowed it down to two choices: greddy 4-2-1 stainless steel header and greddy sp2 catback or dc sports 4-2-1 ceramic header and hks hi power catback exhaust. I know you guys have heard this over and over and over again and i have read all the exhaust threads and no i don’t want a rsr ex mag or a thermal, just everyone’s honest opinion about each one of these combinations. One more question, as far as diameter, would each one of these components match it’s counterpart?? Any responses will be greatly appreciated.
i can’t help you much on the header question, i’ve been told however that DC makes a decent header. there are many better choices out there though from what i’ve been told. i would recommend either the RSR ex-mag exhaust (if your into being subtle but functional) or if your into something a little louder and more noticeable, tanabe makes some nice exhaust systems for our cars. i’m a turbo fiend so i’m not investing in a header. i had a free (buddy gave it to me, owed me a favor) DC header (it looked like crap but it was free so i couldn’t beat it). it made my engine a little loud but it was nice. couldn’t feel it much except right before redline, it felt a little stronger. i’m currently rockin a JDM type R header, which rocks cuz i’m actually able to reuse stock heat shield (ultra sleeper style) nothin noticeable in power gains but sounds pretty nice. this spring its all gettin trashed for a nice little turbo setup i’ve got waiting for it (most of my parts were re-purchased after the recent theft, those that know me well and/or read my other post know about it). anyway, this spring i will be the second turbo DA in like a 50 mile stretch of where i live. hope this helps. oh and i’ve also heard chikara makes a pretty nice header, a little pricey though, but nice i’m told. i think RSR makes a header too, not sure on that though. again, hope this helps. and let me give you a formal welcome
If your going Greddy… do the whole setup… greddy header… and greddy exhaust.
thanks a lot imcnblu very helpful advice and yeah if i go greddy i’m going all greddy. i know that the hks will probably be loud but i kinda like how it looks but i also like how the sp2 looks also that’s why i’m stuck in between the two. And when you turbo a 2nd gen teg don’t you have to lose your a/c??
it depends on a couple of factors. what side the turbo will be facing if the “cool side” (intake side) is facing the driver side, i’ve been told you can keep A/C but depending on the size of the whole setup, you might be forced to lose power steering. too many factors to list on that one, sorry. as with any car that comes from the factory NA, you will make some sacrifices if you want boost. there is almost no way around it.
i feel ya…what size turbo u runnin, how many psi, how much power you trying to get??
Let me know how that greddy set up is as far as any exhaust leaks and installation goes. I was looking into a Stainless DC header until they discontinued it.
search on headers. dc is crap. small ports and shitty welds.
Hrmmm…I’ve always heard very good things about DC sports. Sport Compact Car did a “great header test” awhile back using a 95 Integra GSR as the test car and the DC header was one of the best (4-2-1 one piece). Right up there with headers 2X as expensive.
I run the DC head w the HKS exhaust and its freakin LOUD!!!
Good power gains, but loud.
Also I dont agree with the comment about DC headders bein shit, mine is over two years old and there are no breaks or leaks in it so I would have to say from personal experince that the welds on DC headders are just fine
hey i been doin research also about this for my gs-r and after everything …iv come to this for mine…i have a jdm itr header w/ heat shield and skid plate, magnaflow 2.5 resonator, and im going with the kteller 2.5 exhaust piping made for our cars, vibrant or es tuning muffle 2.5, and a hi flo cat carsound 2.5 …thats what im going for. check some of the threads i made about doing an exhaust system maybe they will help.
mR742, Do you think its the exhaust or the header that makes your car so loud cause I’ve been looking into getting a DC header and I don’t want to piss off to many seniors citizens or cops:crazy:
i have an ls with a dc header,stock cat and egay tsudo 2.5" stainless cat back. flows pretty nice and its pretty quiet, wish it was a tad louder but i bet if i put a test pipe in it would be way to loud. sounds great too, nice barritone deep sound not like the raspy zinggy usual honda.
Im sure the header contributes, but I believe the Hi Power is the main cause of the loudness.
Also its not TOO bad, just when you get on it, you and everyone around know that your running WOT.
Basically if your driving down the road at a steady pace it sounds really nice and rumbly but not too loud. As you accelerate it is louder than most, to the point that if you were on your cell phone and had the windows down you would ask “wait, what did you just say I couldnt hear you” Sitting at a light I can barely hear it, and if you cock it to the side a little I dont think another muffler can look any better.

Thats awsome! I love exhausts that have a good controled sound just cruising but let the other people around u know u meen business when you get on it. U should totaly post a sound clip!

Love the videos! Car has a nice deep rumbly sound. Love the cops in the one video! I have a picture I took of my car (mostly stock) in a national park and the Fuzz was pulling up in the back ground of the picture (woops!)
i’m going by what i know. literally every single person i know personally who has used a dc header in the past, had it crack at the welds inside of a year’s use. that in combination with comparing the ports to obx, jdm itr, and megan equivalents, i won’t ever consider using a dc header.
