Header Question

Okay so i have a b16a siRII swap from japan, the 170 hp one shown here: http://www.tigerjapanese.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=110&category_id=6&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1

I am planning on getting some Megan racing headers for it… would i need to get

MR-SSH-AI90 Fits: Integra All
Specs: 4-2-1 Header for Acura Integra DA Chassis - $129.99

or

MR-SSH-HC8800SI Fits: Del Sol DOHC - $139.99
Specs: B16A2 DOHC Header

just wondering before I buy one.

no megan headers! mine didnt fit. it hit the oil pan really badly so i sent it back. not worth the hassle search for a good brand name used header. But if you like to deal with bull buy the megan header.

Megan headers are probably the top of the “budget” line of headers. Never had a problem fitting them to customers cars, always perform, and haven’t had any weld or hardware issues. Get the one made for your car.

so…

even though i have a non stock engine, the measurements are the same?

yes. buy one for a da so it clears your crossmember.

Got it

Awesome thanks for the info. Ill post results after I’m done installing it.

Another quick question, how does having vtec affect the way a header will perform on my car? Since I have a b16a2 dohc vtec engine, wouldn’t choosing a header designed for a non vtec engine affect overall performance gains negatively?

slightly but why would you order a non vtec header anyway?

http://www.redlinemotive.com/store/megan-racing/megan-racing-headers.asp

they don’t offer a header for the 91 teg that has vtec…
That’s why I asked if i should get the one for the del slo or not because the dohc del slo is vtec.

The stock integra is dohc non vtec.

Double posted somehow…

possibly try a 90, 92 or 93 all the same chassis and those for sure came with vtec motors

As if we didn’t already know that!

Get a header made for your year car. If you get anything else it won’t clear the cross member and won’t fit. I have a Megan Header on my 93 GS and it fit just fine.

Lol okay. Just making sure… Thanks.

Got em!

Alright they just arrived here at my workplace.
I’ll post more info when I start installing them.

installed, sort of.

alright so i installed my Megan Racing exhaust headers today and it was a pain in the ass to get them to fit.

First off, the outlet pipe was like 3 inches short compared to my stock exhaust header outlet pipe. so i had to use a c-clamp to pull the exhaust towards the header in order to be able to get the bolt screwed in.

.5 inch gap

needless to say, there is now a huge gap and the exhaust system is not sealed, i now have a leak where the two pipes connect…

so basically i need to get my exhaust extended in order to make the two connect properly.

also the header pipe does clear the cross member, but due to the bolt placement, it is very tricky to tighten the last one because there is no room to work with.

For that hard to get bolt use a ratchet with a flex head on it like in the pic and go at it from the top.

Sounds like you had some exhaust parts originallly for a 92-93 (unless things were different in Japan). When using a 92-93 cat-back for example you need an extension adapter of about 2 inches to reach the header.

By using that C-clamp I think you are putting a lot of stress on some points of the exhaust.

exactly which car was that header made for?

did it come with a donut gasket? If not, you should get one. It would probably solve your leak problem

http://www.redlinemotive.com/part-number/megan-racing/mr-ssh-ai90.asp

it came with 3 gaskets. no donut gasket though, would my old headers have one on them?

the previous owner had a bosal exhaust system installed onto it, as far as i can tell it was nothing major, has the stock cat on it all banged up from bottoming out.

i think im gonna go to the hardware store and get a couple of bolts and just take out the spring loaded bolt that is on there now… just for the time being.

also when i was under the car i pulled on the exhaust and as far as i could tell, it was hanging on by just the rubber hangers. is that normal? it doesn’t move around much when im driving, there’s like 4 hanger pieces, so the stress is being placed on those.
