So, I have finally recieved all of my turbo components. I want to get some suggestions from you guys about charge pipe diameters and materials.
I have a T3/TO4E turbo with 3" compressor inlet and 2" compressor discharge. And I have a Tyrus 6" FMIC with 2.5" in/out. I have searched and found that most people choose 2.25" charge pipes. Is it possible to use 2" compressor discharge pipe to the FMIC to reduce line volume? And use 2.25" after FMIC?? Would it just be best to use 2.25" all the way thru??
Also, I was looking at using SS for my charge pipes. I am very good at welding SS, and SS has good resistance to thermal conductivity. Also, I think finished SS would look sweet under the hood. Any opinions??
I used 2 in and 2.5 out of the intercooler. A lot of people use the factory holes to run their piping through, but I just cut through the sheet metal that surrounds the radiator and went through there on both sides. You can’t do that if your IC is more than 18" long though, unless it’s a backdoor style.
i’m gettin a backdoor FMIC. stu loves the backdoor action.
ditto on what he said about piping. you will need to get the proper silicone coupler though for the 2.5" inlet on the intercooler if you’re not using 2.5" piping. that shouldn’t be a problem, anywhere that sells piping should have the appropriate coupler.
My piping is 2" off the turbo…up to 2.5" to the IC…2.5" from the IC to my old Ebay Ram Air special intake which is 3" and then the reducer back down to my ~2.75" throttle body.
Oh yeah…all aluminum…no welds, mostly rubber couplers and T-bolts.
No leaks, no issues…COMPLETELY GHETTO…but I love it
Cool, thanks for the info. I am gonna do 2" before IC, then 2.5" after IC. So, typically, the T/B’s are 2.75" O.D.?? I am trying to make my charge pipe parts list. TIA
Just a heads up; I’m having a boost leak issue, and I think it’s because of my hose clamps. The T-bolts are awesome and hold very tight, however, the regular worm gear hose clamps keep breaking on me right as I try to tighten them. :tsk:
Yeah I saw that link, thanks. I guess the leak problem had to do with removing my MBC. I still can’t understand what the problem was, since the wastegate should have just acted normal, but whatever, I guess hose clamps are fine.
