wassup guys i’m new to this forum!! i recently did a t3/t4 turbo setup on my DA but my turbo keeps passing oil through the exhaust. The first one i had on did the same and now the second one is doing the same also…the turbos were used. I had to turn the housing on both side of the the turbo to have it fit the setup. Is it just that i had two bad turbos or is there something that i’m doing wrong…lmk guys thanks
hmm… sounds like bad seals but could have been caused by high oil pressure… Are u running an oil restricter?
yup. make sure you run a restrictor, otherwise your seals can die basicly right away (can, not will)
also if your haveing that much trouble with used turbo’s, i’d buy a new one
no i’m not running a oil restrictor…same thing happened to my first setup (tdo5 setup) but my third tdo5 turbo didn’t have that problem…now with the garrett t3 im having the same problem…the setup is the same from the tdo5 except now i have the t3 manifold and the garrett…will i be able to use the same turbo if i put a restrictor on it or would the seals already needs to be changed…i didn’t want to get a new turbo cause i might end up with the same results…i’ll try a restrictor and see wat happens…thanks
for sure, use the restrictor… not having that has caused the death of many turbos… gl man ohh and i highly recomend a new turbo once the restrictor is installed… rebuilt ones just don’t seem to do the job.
if you have them rebuilt by a good company there shouldnt be much of a diffrence between rebuilt and new
its possible you could use your current turbo once you install the restrictor, but i would bet on your seals being gone already, once they go they are usually done for
Where can an oil restrictor be purchased?
MantisX
thanks guys for the info…i’m definitely am going to put a restrictor on it…i’m thinking about using one of the turbo that i have to see what happens when i have the restrictor on…i guess by now the seals are already gone…so it’s gonna pass oil again…but i’ll try it anyways. I gonna have to look for another turbo anyways, maybe it’ll work…thanks again…
that just reminds me of my t2 setup that i first had…i bought fittings for it and the first two was passing oil through the turbo…on the third turbo i used the factory oil feed line for the turbo and it didn’t pass oil…i didn’t think of that till you guys mention restricting the oil feed…that’s gotta be it…thanks again
so where can good oil restrictors be purchased?
got a new oil feed line and works great…the turbo does not pass oil anymore thanks alot guys for the info…
what oil line were you using that you were having problems with?
Does anyone know if an oil restrictor is necessary when using a -3 braided line?
i have a -3 rite now and it’s working fine…compare to the first oil feed line i the -3 is like 3 times smaller. the first one was about 1/8 in diameter so theres a big difference in what i ws using…
