HIDs in JDM Headlights! YES!!!!!!!!

lower is better to a certain point. im not sure but i beleive ideal Kelvin rating is somewhere around 5500k

4500k would be ideal since its what MOST oem acura/honda’s use…

Is it legal to run HID kits anymore?

If your car did not originally come with HIDs nor if the lights are DOT approved, then it’s illegal…

I’ve seen cars modified with HID kits from 4300k(S2000 lights) - 6000k(slight blue tint). But I prefer the color of the 5000k & 5300k kits.

I would actually prefer to buy H4H HID bulbs, I am thinking of upgrading to 12000k bulbs instead of the 8500k I have now, but I can’t find a place to buy them, if anyone knows, please post up. Making them is a REAL pain and it’s got it’s risks while modifying the bulbs, easy to break em.

Someone has to know where to actually buy em.

You should go for a Lower Kelvin rating. The higher you go the more light wasted. The Perfect is white light with a hint of yellow. The more blueish purple you go the more useable light you lose.

sounds like a scam to get clean jdm headlights for free from people wishing to get “crisp cut-off hid projectors” in jdm headlights…

pics of your car’s headlights on does nothing for us…

get a picture of your car having the light output with a cut off… i’d like to see it with unmodified jdm lenses.

yes they’re 1 pieces

a pic of my HID conversion using D2S bulbs. the picture doesn’t do it justice

not all fatory HID’s are projectors. there are mercedes without projects that have hid’s my buddy’s g35 doesnt hae projectors but has factory hid’s. But projectors are always better for hid’s because it has a better beam pattern and cut off.

Your gonna have a problem with beam pattern reguardless if you are using the jdm one piece. the beam flares to the left and not to the right.

I actually modified my housing to use a 9006 hid kit. the base of the 9006 is the same size as the h4h. i jus simply made the 2 side slots wider to accept the 9006 bulbs. jus becarefull how you cut the housing so that you dont get dust inside your headlight. my beam is adjusted lower so that i dont blind on coming drivers but i still see better with the beam being lower with the hid’s than jus regular hologen. My friend was driving in front of me and said my lights look good an it wasnt blinding him at all.

you can also use bulbs from a newer TL, balast and all… and if you modify it correctly, the bulb filament is in the same location as the stock H4H bulb. so the lighting is fine, projection looked good, and wasnt blinding.

and yea STI’s come without projectors, but have HID’s too…

i compared the the h4h to several bulbs b4 i choose one. the 9006 had the same size base and from wat i saw the bulbs will sit at the same location. my lights look good. no crazy scattered beams.

and if you ever need to replace the halogen bulb, u can jus use a 9006xs. they’re the same except it doesnt have the right angle plug. its just straight. of course you wont have hi beam. i converted my wires to a 9006 plug also.

Basically what I did, I used H4s and found that by cutting the base off a Stanley H4H bulb, I could shave down the H4 base and then slide it inside of the H4H Base and Epoxy them in place. I have an extra set of the bulbs now so I will try to take pictures tomorrow if I can remember to bring them home with me.

I am trying to decide whether I like the 8000k or the 12000k better, about the same light output, but the 8000k definately seems easier on the eyes when driving any distance at night.

Also, Since the bulb sits in the exact location as the H4H there is no real scattering of the light, and the stock cut-off is definately noticable, but of course it’s not like a projector.

i chose D2S cause its a factory bulb and i can get them anywhere if one were to go out (unlikely). Plus there’s minor fabrication to the base of the bulb to make it fit, and i didnt modify the housing at all. Not having a perfect cut off line doesnt bother me cause i did the conversion to have brighter lights.

i have 6000k. My friend had 8000k in his G3 and mine were definitely brighter than his.

about around 55-6000k is about the brightest output you get. after that. it jus begiens to change shades to a violate/purplish color.

i chose 9006 because it was simple. after one mod. you wont ever need to mod anything ever again if you needed to change bulbs. no modification to the bulbs. jus to the housing. and it still allows you to use the stock h4h bulbs. you can switch between either bulb no problems.

you mentioned that if you convert to 9006, you can always use the h4h again. But if you do that, will it still be a perfect fit for the h4h?

these are 12k in my buddies EG hatch, they are bright…insanely bright.

Those HIDs on that Civic are fucking gay. WAYYYYYY to much glare.

I hate people blinding the hell out of me so they can look cool.

thats why I love power mirrors in the contour. Adjust them alittle and give “lil Og TriPL3 oG y0” in the civic with poorly aimed “HidZ y0!” a nice lightshow. If they are riding my ass which is usually the case.

I don’t like the Purple HIDs, I just tried some 12k ones that I modified into H4Hs, they just didn’t put light down very well, 8k is perfect.

aznphuc “you mentioned that if you convert to 9006, you can always use the h4h again. But if you do that, will it still be a perfect fit for the h4h?”

yes. it fits fine.
