So this weekend a few friends and I are throwing on the new suspension (due to come this week). I’ve asked around and researched a bit and it looks like West End Alignment is the best place to get an alignment especially for lowered /performance/track cars. Nothing but good things everywhere. My friend with his s2k (ran on tein coilovers for a while) highly recommended that place.
However, since we’re doing the suspension work at my house (pasadena), and the tokico kit supposedly lowers one 1", the shop is located in gardena (approx 40 miles). Would the toe be so far out of wack that it would be dangerous to make such a trek? Planning to have some tires by then so we’ll get those mounted post alignment.
sorry for all the posts but its coming up soon and i want to be prepared. thanks.
shouldnt be a problem like h8crime said, now if you were lowered more it would be dangerous because the way the car would react when you turned the wheel.
okay cool. I’m researching closer shops too, i’ve found one called Speedwurk Motorsports in Duarte, which is less than half the distance and i’ve read good things on TireRack and some forum, but they’re not as popular as West End seems like. I am assuming from their name they work on modified cars. I’ll give each a call later this week.
I just lowered my db1 last week and after putting on the camber kit my alignment was way off so I was doing like 15-20mph when I went to get it aligned.
I took mine last time to a regular alignment shop. I would recommend against that. I had to get in the pit and hold the guys hand because he could not figure out what the hell he was doing. I would eyeball your set as best as possible, and try to drive as little as possible until you get it aligned. Maybe throw an old set of tires on it for the drive.
I wouldn’t worry too much. My Neuspeeds drop the teg 1.8in, & I have yet to get an alignment. This after nearly 6 mths. I had a chance to inspect the tires when I did my side skirts a couple months ago- no wear problems that I or Mr. Lincoln could see.
:getsome: :manual:
Corniest quote ever: "Get yours today! JDM is IN!"
ahhh just to update, my car is now 1" lower than before (even with “sagging” OEM springs) and the camber wear is noticeable to me at least. The tread blocks on the inner side are flush with the tread block somewhere in the middle…hard to explain but the outer edge is not like that.
ordered ingalls rear camber washer kit x2 (yeah, i’m too lazy to go to home depot and get galvanized ones…at least this one comes with bolts so i dont need to scrounge around for em)
i droped my car 2" on H&R race springs and waited like a month to get an alignmet. the car drove fine, but it tore the hell outta the front tires… learned my lessson…
With 1’’ you dont really need to get an alignment. The only thing ive ever seen get messed up after lowering is the camber which is a given. Dont get me wrong its smart but after you see the new alignment print out it will look almost the same.
the main reason for the alignment is to correct the toe-in/out and everything else (caster, etc.). camber is negligible as long as its within reasonable limits. Thats what tire rotations are for. Right now i’m just concerned about fast wear from incorrect toe.
i lowered my car on spw coil sleeves and koni yellows. ive been running this way for about 2 weeks worth of driving(i drove it all day and night for 3 days straight pretty much). Haven’t got an alighment for it yet. I don’t think im going to do it any time soon. I actually like the negative camber. it seems to slide more predictably. I havent noticed any noticable uneven tire wear. I dont think that 1 inch lower isnt enough to freak out about. imo.
i guess i can wait another week, the ingalls kit hasnt come in yet and i expect it to come in next week. Then i’ll take that, my tires, ls mesh, and my car for an alignment and mount the wheels, etc. I’ll get another paycheck then too.
