How much boost for different engines?

I’d like to turbo my stock b18a. Due to the stock internals, I’m not going to boost over 10 psi.

However, someday far in the future I might want to go to a different engine, like a LS/VTEC, CRVTEC or B18C. I want to be able to use my same turbo setup on whatever engine I go to, so whatever I get for the b18a needs to have room to expand in the future.

I don’t plan to ever run extremely high boost since this is a street car & I don’t want a lot of lag, but I wold think that with an engine that is bigger and/or can rev higher I could run more boost than on a b18a and not get any lag.

Supposing I had something like a built CR/VTEC, how high could I boost & still get quick response and low lag? What kind of turbo would be ideal for that application?

I want to have a little room to expand in the future without oversizing the setup for the b18a… I definately don’t want to go too big on the turbo & have it be laggy, but as long as the b18a can spool it quick enough, I don’t have to run it at the maximum boost it can handle either… I need to find the best medium so that I have something that will work well for the b18a but can still reach its potential with a slightly higher flowing engine… any advice?

I think I will most likely end up pieceing together a kit myself, if just to save money; even in the event that there is a kit out there that would fit my needs…

get a 14b. but it all depends on how much you want to spend, and I’d be careful boosting to 10lbs on a stock b18

you don’t need to build a cr-vtec motor. you can sleeve & bore your ls block to 84mm for the same cost & put a vtec head on that. the end result will be a much stronger motor. you want to at least run a t3/t4 turbo but if you have the money to build a monster motor, i’d compliment it with a bigger turbo, sucj as a 60-1.
