Quick question. Ive got a 90 da, b18c1 with a new set of ls pistons. With the old gsr pistons i trashed the ringlands on 3 pistons at 8-9 psi. What could i boost saftly with the lower comp ls pistons. This is my daily axe, so it needs to be reliable. Anyone have the same setup?? any info helps. Thanks!!
Your problem is more likely in the tune, because you shouldn’t have cracked those pistons on only 8-9 psi. You must have been detonating pretty decently. I’ve read not to push the stock LS pistons past 300whp, or you’ll surely crack the ringlands. If you’ve already installed the LS pistons, that sucks because forged ones are only like $100 more.
What does your PCV setup look like on your boosted engine? If you cracked three of the four pistons ringlands it sounds like you have a blow by issue. I left my PCV setup stock on my first turbo’d d15b7 and ended up cracking the ringlands on all four pistons.
