how much mileage when your engine dies?

can I do a poll?
as the title suggests…
Mine at 223k kms…
cyclinder failure…
3rd owner,
pretty sad consider I maintain the car pretty well.

mine is at 227k miles and no real problems yet , she still has some pep and only burns a half a quart of oil every 5k miles
you should have gotten more life out of her than that

my 90 da had 287,xxx miles on the odometer before I decided to pull the motor.it smoked a bit but still had some get up and go.

:werd:
92 ls coupe 206K
88 ls auto 5dr 223K
87 ls auto 5dr 2nd tranny 261K
another 87 ls auto 5dr 1st tranny 222K:)
All run, all being driven all over Puget Sound and eastern Wa.
Watch out for the beer cans!

mine has 220k on it and still runs ok but i need a new distributor

232K rings are gone. thank god for the motor i have in my garage with only 80k on it out of a 91 auto teg:rockon:

RS has 220,000miles and just lost the factory clutch, engine runs perfect.
LS has 140,000miles and had a chipped exhaust valve, now its fine.

well, my car is a 92 gs has 279,XXX KM on it and i dont burn any oil, im absolutly shocked, the only oil i do loose is threw the oil pan gasket, lol but my 3rd gear grinds so that kinda sucks, oh well but motor is 100% heathy

Buddy’s car has 310,XXXKM on it and it still keeps up with mine prety good, just his burns oil just as much as gas

my 92 GS had 282 000 KM on the b18 was pulled, not sure if it was dead or just wanted the b16 the guy put in…

185k miles…DAMN NITROUS!!!

91LS auto 184k miles and dosn’t burn oil and runs healthy.

yup, definitely mine goes a little too early :frowning:
I wonder if these few incidents might have contributed to it…

  1. stalling the engine once in a while, ie: letting the gf learn stick on your teg
  2. low on oil(not low enough for the oil light to come on) and wasn’t aware of it till time for oil change, happened once or twice the max.

btw, it was a 92 GS, frequent oil change, non synthetic.

Hope you guys can get more life out of yours.
anyways…keep polling!

Leting your GF learn to drive would be harder on the trannythan it would be on the engine, not that it wouldnt put any strain on it. just that the clutch and tranny take most of the abuse.

low on oil thats another story.

driving style tend to play a pretty big roll in engine deterioration. which is most likely why my rings went out so soon. i personaly figured i could get it to atleast 250k if not 300K. oh well i guess ill have to try again:D

~210,000 miles - burned an exhaust valve on the way to work, stopped at a stop light close to work, and was wondering what car was loping like a hot rod with a cam. Turns out it was me

Compression test: 185, 175, 180, 4. Ya 4.

Sourced a 2nd gen b16 with LSD tranny from Japan, and have not looked back. Its nice to change the oil after 3k miles, and it still look like light beer. Even after 20k miles since swap.

Texas must have really really clean air  j/k

324,xxx kms and running strong, just burns a bit of oil

cough not really cough

So its light beer in a dirty glass.

304K miles on my 92 RS, still runs great.

370k … one of the cylinders lost compression … put in a new engine runs smooth

321,xxx miles and counting. Did all the tune-ups, timing belt + water pump at 300k. Been using mobil and restore since 260k CR seems fine the last time i checked. I think I am going to do that again this weekend to find out. I do burn 1 qt every 1200 miles. No leak but i think its valve stems worn and ring probably going shortly.

Overall my motor is still holding up kinda weak sometimes but it still drive and pulls…Thanks to my S1 tranny.
