How to fix the ICU for less than $5

ok so i need JDM1nt2B’s address to send the icu too

does anyone know where i can get a capacitor? i went to radioshack and they didnt have any…any ideas?

i got mine at radio schack today…but my defroster still doesnt work…Wat else could be wrong? anyone got any ideas…after i changed the capacitor, i press the defrost button but the light doesnt turn on but i here a click…still doesnt defrost and its startin to snow here…

I picked a good ICU off my buddy’s part out and swapped it in. It fixed my defroster and blinker/hazzard problems.

When you swapped out the cap, did you also clean the board? The problem isn’t just that the cap goes bad, the leaking fluid from the cap shorts out the traces.

Man I am pissed…

I bought a supposedly working ICU off the Junkman (not his fault, he’s a great guy) and it was a bitch swapping them out and then I found out the one I bought was even worse than mine. My oil light finally went out, and the hatch open light works now, but now I have the INT wiper problem, the rear defrost doesn’t work, and I get the possessed door chime randomly. So I guess I’ll just try this on my old ICU and put it back in! sigh

(Unless one of you who has experience would do this for me)

Yeah you need to clean the board cause the fluid makes contact across different traces and thats where shit goes haywire. So you need to clean it off. If you happen to break a trace, you can solder a small wire (insulated) from the beginning of the contact to the end where the solder leads are (not at the break).

So if there is a bit of black on the board it can still work? Mine actually isn’t that bad, just a few spots and it doesn’t look really bad, but I’m just wondering.

ok i tried this but it didnt work but the cap i bought was only good to i think 85 degrees. does anyone know how much a new icu goes for?

The black leakage on the board is corroding and eating away at the traces. The one I’m repairing for HorizonTeg06 actually had 2 small sections of the traces gone where the acid was eating away. So along with replacing the cap, I cleaned the board up and now have to run jumper wires from each soldered contact point to basically bypass the broken traces.

System Name\Component : FUSE BOX-RELAY
$182.01

Fuse Box Relay? Technically, I guess it is a relay, but the Helms calls it the Integrated Control Unit, or ICU.

The Fuse Box Relay is the description you click on to bring up that whole area on that website. Then from there you find the component. Yes it is the ICU.

i hope the icu i sent you works for horizonteg

Matty,
What was it that wasn’t working on it, so Horizonteg knows to check those functions.

the defroster didnt work and the interminent wipers, and a random door chime would happen while driving, and door chime wasnt working right, and the warning for having the headlights on with the key not in the ignition didnt work either.

Also the oil light, that was my problem

Oil light? What, it didn’t come on, or came on when it’s not supposed to? I haven’t heard and oil light issue related to the icu.

I don’t know about the lighting, but all switches on the dash (including steering wheel) except the climate controls all go through the ICU. Front turn signals, door switches, dome light, etc… also.

well my hazards still dont work on this icu that i got but everything else works. also does the icu control the cruise control because that doesnt work either on my car, it just stopped working one day, and also i never had a oil light problem

check your fuse in the fuse box under the hood. thats what i found my problem to be. now my hazards work

i have checked fuses so many times, its not the fuse :frowning:
