How to: Sure fire Passenger leak fix.

I like the ideas being produced to fix these common problems in our Tegs, but I’m gonna have to agree with MattyG2 on this one. I’ve just bought the OEM rubber grommets and replaced them with no issues in the past 3 DA’s I’ve owned. In the last 2, I added some gray silicone to the seals and some surrounding areas for added prevention. I should have bought new lining for that lower shroud that blocks the blower motor, but I didn’t realize it would be so deteriorated (ended up slapping some silicone around there too). On a side note, why the hell do those black caps always go missing on the cowl. I always lose a couple and fine some sitting in between the hood and cowl.

Where did you buy the OEM rubber grommets? I went to my local Acura dealer and they said those has been discontinued…

Got them at acuraautomiveparts.org. I just bought mine in March for my latest DA, so I doubt they’re discontinued. I’ll try and see if I can get the part number when I’m near a computer.

I thought about just having a sheet of metal welded over that hole to avoid the issue all together.

I think that would interfere with the fresh air option on your climate control. I saw someone use some sort of foam insulation spray that got hard after it was applied. I forgot what thread it was in, but it was definitely on G2IC.

today I put little pieces of dynamat on the underside of the holes over and adjacent to the blower motor vent hole. I then siliconed the tops of the holes that i dynamated just to be sure. We’ll see how she does through the summer.

update It down poured all night last night and is still raining pretty heavily this morning. I have the dash disassembled to replace the blower motor box. From the interior, there are no signs of leaking on the floorboard and I reached up to touch the back of the holes that were dynamated and they are completely dry. Hopefully this holds up over time.

Well, I tried to go the “Caulk it to hell and back” route, but it didn’t work because I put the screws in before I put the lower cowl on.
So with the top part of the lower cowl not secured, the car is still leaking…inspite of sealing up all of the holes with clear silicone (on the top and the underside of the screws). I even put a new foam gasket around the lower cowl.

I guess there is no substitute for doing it right. I’ll just have to put a bucket in the car until I can get the money for new seals and new screws.

!@#$!@#!@#$

Does anyone have any comments on why the lower cowl has to be bolted back when it’s only supposed to cover the blower hole from getting water in it? I don’t understand why just caulking up those damnable holes didn’t work for me…

Could the water be coming in from somewhere else?
Every guide that I’ve seen promises that it’s those two holes that leak water into the blower hole.

Argh, I just need to build my own cover for that blasted blower hole and ditch the stock lower cowl.

Can you please tell me where this “Firewall drain hole” is? I cleaned out as much of the goop that was in there blocking things up but I couldn’t see where water would actually drain out because I don’t have the best light in my garage and I used my phone as a flashlight…which didn’t work out so well.

Thanks,
A roll of 3/8 inch foam window sealer, and a plastic 2-liter bottle are all you really need. It IS actually a waste of resources to buy a bunch of $2 plastic clips and shit.

When you take off the sub-cowl, the one below the main cowl, replace the gasket with the roll of foam window sealer.

You will see the inlet where all the air is sucked into the blower motor, arch a piece of plastic over the inlet so air can get in under your plastic piece through the sides, but so water cannot drip down into the heater inlet hole.

I attached a photo of my friends car I did this on a few weeks ago. The plastic was from a coolant bottle and says Made in Germany, GDM yo!
When you do this mod, do you still use the lower cowl?
I thought about doing mine this way and ditching that damn useless lower cowl.
But I didn’t know if it would still work properly. To my understanding, the lower cowl does pretty much the same thing as your mod…it’s just bigger and more prone to failure it seems.

Please let me know,
Dm

The only consolation I have is that I’m not the only person that has this issue.
How long can this go on before the passenger footwell rots out?

thanks,
