Just do it right they way it was supposed to be. Might need to buy a couple other things but it will work just fine. Also make sure the water behind the firewall can flow out. If debris is blocking the holes where the water drains than the water will fill up behind the firewall and slowly leak through the blower intake housing. I think those seals have done pretty well for 15+ years
so instead of using this method of fixing the leak, i used a bunch of calking seam sealer and its worked really good no leak at all. but today it just poured down rain super hard! it was pounding on my skywindow in my house while my car was sitting in my drive way. after it stopped raining. i went in my car and i looked at the floor and no water! but then when i turned the car on and the air on, a small spray of water hit the top of my floor mat. a tiny bit. just wondering if anyone else has this problem? it only happens when i turn the air from the outside in using that vent under the cowl.
Just do it the right way and replace everything, that’s what i did even the cowl.
Old cowl
Old beat up grommets/seals
Putting the new stuff in
Put some new liner on the lower blower cover
New cowl in!
some water probably leaked in and sat inside the blower. When you turned the fan it comes out. Happened to me when my car still leaked.
yea its those holes for the clips right above the vent. just need some more sealant. and repairing it the right way would just cost too much money imo. just get some seam sealer
Doing it right will yield better results for long term use. I feel better knowing I did it right and knowing it will last as long as it did as before. Maybe because I like doing my car repairs the right way though Nothing wrong with other ways, but I just prefer the specified right OEM way.
thats my dilema, i prefer to fix things the proper way, not only does it look better it is less to worry about.
i bought the weather strip liner very similar to yours.
but i was trying to get part numbers together for the little white rubber things, and screws that go into it. but ive read multiple threads and im confused which part numbers are what exactly and dont want to order the wrong parts or wrong quanitys.
could you please list the needed parts with photos, or add the part number and a little arrow pointing at the part in the pic you already posted? might help avoid confusion for other people in the future.
reparing things the right way is improper. ghetto repairs FTW!
Exactly!
i spent my money on a wiper combo switch which imo is more important than some seals.
Dumbest thing i’ve ever heard. I plan on keeping my car for a WHILE though.
MattyG2, it would be great if you can list out the part numbers for those who are thinking to replace them. Thanks in advance.
I’ll post my order list in a few.
A roll of 3/8 inch foam window sealer, and a plastic 2-liter bottle are all you really need. It IS actually a waste of resources to buy a bunch of $2 plastic clips and shit.
When you take off the sub-cowl, the one below the main cowl, replace the gasket with the roll of foam window sealer.
You will see the inlet where all the air is sucked into the blower motor, arch a piece of plastic over the inlet so air can get in under your plastic piece through the sides, but so water cannot drip down into the heater inlet hole.
I attached a photo of my friends car I did this on a few weeks ago. The plastic was from a coolant bottle and says Made in Germany, GDM yo!
Ok just quick question. After all the research on different ways to seal up the leak, can i just seal up the 2 holes above the cabin opening? Cover everything back up with all clips minus the 2 i sealed and call it a day? Thanks

hmmm… that sounds like it would work. isnt that where the leak is coming from? i say try it and get back to us…
Why don’t you all just do it the right way? It works 100%.
Because were CHEAP haha :). Yes i did seal up the two holes on my LS and it did work. Being i had a tube of rtv, Why not give it a shot. So yea i guess it worked 100%, it wasnt “wrong” and i can put that few dollars i would have spent on clips towards my DB2.

At the least this fix could cost you 8 dollars or less because all you really need is the rubber rivets to fix the leak. So, fixing it right is also the cheap solution. Buying everything else is just for precautions if clips break and you just want new clips. The other thing to fix is the cowl top cover caps and screws if they are broke.
screw doing things the right way! hah jk. I’m all for it but oh well. my 'teg’s gone.
i did the bottle trick and i think it worked. we just went through a tornado/severe storm episode and the floor is dry. i have the carpet out because im about re-wrap it so its just bare floor…
the bottle trick is a lot easier than the bag thing…
