I have a situation...

I did search for a wile and could not find anything

So i just finished my car, Turbo set up looks good, everthing was a pain in the ass as i thought it would be, but car runs GREAT!!!

Here’s my Problem, when im in boost all is good
when im out of boost MOST is okay
My car seems to wanna BOG at around 2-3200RPM when im crusing… like something is cutting out then WHAM! kinda feels like no fuel… which is a big no no…

So here is my set up and see if you can help

T25 Turbo off a 1989 Mazda 2.2 Turbo
10:1 FMU (for now) saving up money for injectors and getting my comp tuned…
stock injectors and fuel pump
stock exhaust from downpipe back for now
i got colder plugs NGK’s bkr7e
HKS BOV.

I think it’s iether the timing or the plugs not being gapped properly, what would i want to gap them at 5PSI?

any input is appreciated, please go hate me b/c i have a bunch of stock stuff. im still building it, but pictures will be up soon, with the turbo kit in

What do you have your plugs gaped at?

a little under stock

check your vaccuum.

whats it pulling when it gets to that area? remmember that your vaccum/boost is whats controlling your fuel because your running an FMU.

may want to also try a known good map sensor, yours might be bad but not throwing a CEL, thats going to affect injector pulse rate, and ignition timing.

hows your dist cap and rotor? hows the wires?

see that’s funny b/c i noticed i NEVER go under 20 inches of vac. like not under negative load or nothing so i find that kinda wierd.

i will check all my vac lines and they are good

The wires are new, the cap is new i just changed the coil and the igniter…

im thinkin my plugs are going to be undergaped and mabye my timing is to far back?.. any idea what kind of timing i should be running at 4psi?

ya i know 4 psi isnt much, but with my set up, and i want still some reliabilty
im willing to accept i have no crazy numbers at the wheels.

this is my first set up i just wanted to do this so i can just expand and learn from this. seeing what should be my next steps but right now all i want is just my car to run right…

ALSO my BOV screwed up so im getting a new one sent down under warrenty
so i cant even go into boost unless i lag it out so i dont have and spooling when i let off the the throttle.

well, 20-25 in/vac is about right. its going to pull the most at 0% throttle and idle.

as far as plug gapping goes, you might be overgapped, usually choppiness comes from a plug being overgapped and not being able to arc properly. but this usually comes at higher rpm and higher boost.

did you install a map sensor check valve? if your stock computer sees any boost its going to freak.

thats good that you installed new ignition.

im kinda confused as to your statment about the BOV, whats going on with it? is it stuck open? this could be part of your problem since its connected to your vaccum system, the diaphram might be torn, and if thats the case then your leaking vaccum/boost through there and thats no good.

one last question do you have any CEL’s?

double post - haha

looks like u’ve got this covered for this guy…

yeah i hope to get him straight. i know how it is trying to troubleshoot this stuff on your own.

i remmember when i had a bad map, it wasnt throwing a CEL, but my car ran like shit. took me almost a week to track down that problem.

mine use to do that till i got rid of the fmu…

all my setups ran like shit, until i took them off… then still ran like shit… :frowning:

hahahahaha

i had my vortech running good though… i surprized myself… i tuned fairly well for my first time…

Ya. No codes NO CEL

and my BOV wont open so it wont let any pressure out so there for i get backspool:S new one comes tomorrow so no worries there… i did use a check valve im pretty sure it doesnt see any boost b/c i used the check valve that is used for the trottle return thing. i had another one and when i blew and sucked it only let air go threw one way
You think there over gapped?.. there a little under stock as i said before and it only does it when im not in boost. so im still unsure onto what i should do im going to infact put a new MAP just in case and i think im going to screw around with the timing a bit.

choppiness isnt really what it’s doing, i get what you mean by that but it feels like when i want to go nothing happends i go into the throttle a bit and it just bogs THEN it gradually but fast picks up and then goes and drives:)

also the BOV and the Map are hooked up to 2 diffrent supplies of vac/boost.

car run great if im in the the throttle, even when im not in boost but just trying to speed up, or if i am in boost and giviner. just when i want to cruise at like 60km/h i have to make sure im at like 3200 or more or it bogs.

really sounds like a fuel issue.

i think you should save your money for some hondata and a good tune.

i borrowed a standalone wideband (AEM UEGO) borrowed a chip burner, borrowed a ostrich adapter to do live tuning through my laptop. stayed obd-0 also. and just used BRE ( ben rom editor ) and worked out great… just gotta be careful, and stay on the safe side of the digits…

allrighty i think ill just save some money for tuneing then, and i think it’s a fuel problem too… my car is OBD1 so i think chrome is the program for that but i know i can find all the info for that so no worries there, thanks everyone for the help and insite, im going to make a new fourm about everything iv done to my car im going to take some more pics today and it will be posted sooner than later take care all
