IHI turbo question

i saw a IHI turbo for sale and am thinking of getting it. Is this a good turbo for a g2? and is there a manifold that will fit it for a g2? im new to turbos and dont know too much. i could possibly get it for $300 maybe a litle lower, any good. any input is appreciated. Thanks

XS Engineering uses some of the newer Ball Bearing IHI (Hitachi) turbos as does Apex-i. I don’t know of anyone who makes an off the shelf manifold for IHI/Honda applications. South Florida Perf. may be able to make you one, but to be honest, you won’t be able to get a whole lot of support for that turbo because most people use Mitsubishi or Garrett turbos.

Oh, I think Subaru uses IHI as their OEM in the WRX. You might want to go check out one of the scoobie boards to see if that turbo is even applicable to your engine displacement and type (it may be a diesel turbo for all you know).

Thanks, i really dont know if i want to go turbo, just been toying with the idea. originally i wanted all motor, because of reliability. how long can a turboed motor last? i love my car too much to see it go down.

Kinda depends on the size of the turbo and the trim too…If it’s a turbo for a tug boat diesel it’s not going to be of much use…what car did this trubo come off of?

There is a LOT of prep work to make a turbo car run properly and safely. Done correctly, there would be little loss in reliability.

Anyone can get a custom manifold and slap a turbo on. Tap into some oil and coolant lines and be “turbo”. But doing it right is a different story.

well not sure what car it came from, but from reading from the archives i think id be safer getting a turbo that you guys recomend. but im planning on getting new rods and pistons later on, right now im working on headwork.
Just wanted to say thanks and i’ve learned a lot form this site, you guys are a big help.
