The bay looks a lot better, good job! Now you just need to get rid of that nasty ABS mess
integ-four do u know the name of that clip so i can get it?? im also in 661. so if u want to sell it ill buy it for ten bucks lol.
also great work on the bay, looks good but definitely gotta get rid of the abs.
agreed.
that will likely take place at the same time I do the tuck/shave. But that’s a while off, so I’ll just have to deal with it for now.
thanks, guys
no prob, gotta love DIY’ers with DA’s. i cant wait to see the final product.
Dam Son, way to put in work  bay looks so much better, I think you should go ahead and just do the tuck and abs delete now while you have it all apart
sorry for being lazy, but what did you use to clean the bay?
No problem, Matt. I know I’ve mentioned it on a few other sites, but I’m not sure if I stated it in here.
I used Simple Green (under the advice of Dave, mugendaxsi. Thanks, man) He suggested I dilute it 1:1 with water, but some of the grease was RIDICULOUS and was more stubborn than I care to recollect on, so some areas I hit it full strength. Please beware, that using it full strength MAY not be too friendly to your paint, so if its fresh paint, especially, I’d be wary about using it full strength. Diluting to 1:1 (1 part Simple Green, 1 part water) makes it safe for use on painted surfaces.
I used some common shop towels for the most part, but used an old tooth brush on the smaller spots. After the degreaser, I used good old soap and water to take the excess off and some elbow grease to simply do a good washing of the bay.
After it was all said and done, I let it sit for a day, came in this afternoon, and got to work painting
hope that helps, Matt. The results are far better in person, than the cruddy cell phone pics show. The bay shines like the rest of the car, now. I found my regular camera, so any pics I take from now on will be 10 megapixel goodness
nice, you painted it too! damn. No way I could do this type of work unless I have a garage. One day though I’ll really build the car.
i’m seeing lots of blue…
great job jakey pooh…if possible, remove the ABS garbage while the motor’s out…easier to work out with no engine/intake manifold in the way…u r my hero bud!
MOAR PROGRESS PICS PLEASE!!!
I’d love to. But, unfortunately, it’ll have to wait. I don’t have the time/money/resources to do it at the moment.
Car has to be FINISHED by Monday, so I don’t have time to order the normal prop valve, or fab up lines, etc. to make it happen. It will all be done the next time the motor comes out. No question about it.
ugh… i know what you mean. I really wish i had taking care of the abs bull shit when the engine out, but i was in the same boat as you. Good job on cleaning the bay! It looks fantastic!
Nice work man, Hell yea simple green FTMFW! I love that shit so much i bought the gallon refiller :). Lasts forever and i go spray happy with on on every damn thingy. I use it like my wife uses Windex haha. About that clip yall been talking about for the speedo cable, i removed that badboy today when changing my cluster and almost lost the damn thing. I cant remember did yall post a partnumber for that speedo clip? wont hurt to have an extra just in case.
R1
bay looks sexy all cleaned up
no part number was listed in this thread, that I know of. so, i degreased the hell out of the engine and painted it today. looks pretty damn good, if you ask me.
Looking good man, you gonna run it with out the TB cover?? ive been running mine a long time like that but after a couple of of off track excursions ive decided im gonna put mine back on just to be safe.
motor is in!
pics will be up later. was a bit disappointed to find out that the aftermarket intake I bought WILL NOT fit  (there goes $50)
thanks to that clusterfuck known as ABS…
started running out of day light. I was getting tired, had to run to the hardware store twice for two bolts for the rear motor mount bracket. Apparently, the previous owner of the motor (clearly a Japanese fellow) stripped the old bolts out, so he re-tapped them so my existing bolts wouldn’t work, and JSPEC didn’t provide me with the rear bracket. partially because I told them I didn’t need it. oh well. it’s on, and i found two bolts that work.
just need to:
*pop the axles back in
*bolt the suspension parts back together (just the tie rods and hub assembly).
*load up the new fluids (oil and transmission fluid) and coolant
*put the radiator back in
*wire up the battery
*extend the wires for the MAP sensor
*and enjoy.
pics in a bit…
remove abs. not THAT hard.
I know. I just don’t have the time or leftover funds to do it at the moment. It WILL be done the next time the motor is out. Not sure when that’s gonna be, just yet. But it will be done then. I just didn’t have enough time to do it on my vacation. I already went a little over my budget for this swap (as I kind of expected). When I have the money to get a proportioning valve, and the tools to do the lines, etc. I’ll gladly make it happen. Just not an option for me at the present time.
Sorry for the delay. Was a busy night last night with the kids. Pic of the motor in the bay, as promised…
valve cover is temporary. the one that’s on there now came on the swap. this valve cover is the one that will be going on there:
Thanks, Ricky (8urcivic) for the valve cover. Absolutely top tier work. No doubt about it.
Just need to get a new gasket set for it. So, I will have to rock the black cover (that’s got several imperfections and just ISN’T up to par with the rest, lol) until payday when I can get a new valve cover gasket set. Also, I’ll be replacing the distributor cap for a new one. There doesn’t appear to be anything wrong with this one, but its just not very good looking. Looks like there were tools dropped on it or something, as there are scratches and gouges in it
I have yet to fire the motor up yet, though. Still a few things to do before I fire it up. But for the most part, the B18C is in it’s new home.
Comments, as always, are welcome.
ninja edit
Almost forgot. My favorite picture from the whole process:
My oldest daughter, Alessa (4 years old), “helping” Daddy with his clutch cable.
“I didn’t know you needed a wrench to work on a clutch cable.”
“Duh, Daddy. I can do it for you.”
tear runs down cheek
What you don’t see is my youngest daughter, Layla (just turned a year old ) underneath the car bolting up the shift linkage, and making short work of the “bitch pin”.
damn I lost.
