then i stand corrected, thats why i asked… congrats on making good numbers on a gsr… u should get some itr or ctr pistons then itll really be a type r…
All the vids I’ve ever seen of stock ITRs put power in the low 170s. Also, my compression is pretty close to a US spec ITR. My compression is 10.6:1, which is pretty close, if not the same, as US type-r, so I was pretty confident that the jdm itr cams, in a motor with similar compression to a US ITR would perform pretty close to a US Type-R. I have seen a few JDM ITR swaps pull around 180ish, but they have higher compression.
Only 10.6:1 ? I’m running 11.1:1. You sure you have the r/sir spec?? Looks like you have just the SIR (JDM) spec block.
Mine: 94 DC R/Sir/GSR
11.1:1 compression tuned on chrome Type r map with secondary delete. I should be running between 160 to 170whp without tune, i believe I’m about a 178 or so WHP, but still need to dyno it this summer. My crank power stock should be 178hp and 128ft, don’t know what it is right now till tune
Still, great numbers off a standard JDM GSR swap non the less.
SIR and SIR-G were the same specs. The only major differences were the ITR versions that changed pretty dramatically in 98.

It’s all good, sir
I’m toying with the idea of doing some JDM Type-R pistons next time I get some extra cash. I didn’t plan on cracking into the bottom end for a while. But, it would definitely do big things for power.

I see u have the honda app as well. I was tripping cause mine isnt a type r, only the sir gsr, but im at 11.1.1. Which is funny. Wonder why that is then? I also have a y80 with lsd.
How do you know yours is 11.1:?
When i had it installed, the shop ran a compression test on it. They also said i had stage 1 cams, but i haven’t got a clue on how to tell…lol
All i know is the motor ran 163whp off the bat, after the swap, so i know I’m well over that. Let me see if i can find that dyno, and ill post it up, its been over 5 years now, so lets hope i still have it…lol
I got my swap done at red zone, great guys, to bad there no longer running, or ill just hit them up for the graph…
So, I’m SERIOUSLY considering redoing my wheels this year. I was going to buy some new rims, but other things came up and it is no longer an option. I am HEAVILY considering powdercoating them bronze with no blue lip. I’m hoping someone can do a photoshop for me, as I have no idea how to use photoshop, lol. Using either of these pics, could someone shop them bronze?
Thanks, guys.
I don’t have photoshop on this computer, but if I can get my other one back and running I’ll give it a shot, but just to get the gears in your head turning here’s a picture of my fn10rc’s that I polished for my rsx and took the center caps off. I love it.
DC5 looks good
Well, fixed my throttle body issue today. Car idles great now. Only thing I noticed was that when driving, when I come off the throttle (casual cruising, not WOT) the rpms will drop a little low. Approximately 500-600rpm, as opposed to the 850-900 it’s supposed to be at. Will adjusting the idle screw remedy this?
yes it will… i used to have a high idle… adjusted the screw and it brought it down… so bringing it up will help. may want to check your timing at the distributor just for extra reassurance.
I put together a thread in the video section as a kind of time line of my car’s dyno history. A nice little read, and about 9 videos to watch. Enjoy, everyone.

Man i absolutely love this car! Glad you got everything straightened out on it!
Thanks, Matt. I’ve said it before, man, and I’ll say it again. The restoration of this car couldn’t have been possible had you not supplied the critical parts.
I appreciate all the help that everyone has given me, be it over the phone, or email. It means more than you guys might know, but for those that always answer the call, or call me back shortly, your time and help is appreciated like nothing I can explain.
Stay tuned. Body work is coming REALLY SOON.
Almost time to get those side skirts on, and get the JDP lip mounted :naughty: to truly complete the visual transformation of the car.
So, I came into a good chunk of money today
Looks like I’m getting some more goodies
I’ll be doing my spare B18C valve cover (the one that came on the motor) and doing it in wrinkle red to replicate the ITR cover, and I’ll probably be picking up a carbon fiber plug wire cover.
Also, I’ve been wanting to get one of these for a while. It’s subtle, but I’ve always liked it:

Hmmm, so much to do, and still plenty of time to do it. Things are looking great
thanks for the link above… been wanting that too for awhile. however if you park your car outside like i think you do, id reconsider due to thieves will see it and automatically know something goods inside… but if thieves arent rampant in your area like over here… GO FOR IT!!! its always nice when u get a nice chunk of extra money to use on car… i got something like that building for next spring or sooner… have you thought of upgrading suspension parts like master bushing set or brake setup like stainless steel brake lines? either way koo koo bout ur updates.
my suspension and brake lines are already done
I have the Energy Suspension Master kit, and I have Goodridge Stainless Brake lines
Car felt a million times better after the suspension overhaul was complete.
anyone selling a good condition carbon fiber plug wire cover for a reasonable price?
Nice Da man. It looks great and is making a healthy amount of power NA. I love a good NA build.
good shit man
I just read through this whole build from the first post! It’s amazing how nice it looks now! You’re body setup is coming close to what I have planned. I plan on going a darker blue though, with a heavier flat bronze deep lip setup. Keep an eye out for my build thread to come! I have a question though.
I’m currently building an 11.3:1 ls/v with a gsr crank, I cleaned the motor over and over with brake clean to paint thinner. I saw you painted your head and block. I was thinking about doing this, but how well is it holding up? Have you ever pressure washed the engine bay since you painted it?
Good luck with that wrinkle red paint, lol. I’m going to attempt to redo it tonight, Apparently that 60% humidty really comes into play, as well as baking the cover. It was splotchy all over the cover, some glossy, some matte, some areas flat and some areas wrinkled. Yikes haha.
Awesome DA man!
