imcnblu's build thread (2012 UPDATES page 26)

Chillin’ like a villain, Jake.

Been setting aside some cheddar here and there in hopes of building another car. :naughty:

Just stay away from shaving the actual seems of the engine bay and stick to filling unnecessary holes. The seems are what end up cracking over time when people shave their engine bays.

GET ON IT!!!

It was only a matter of time.

I’m trying to save a little lettuce myself, just for a rainy day. I’m getting about $7,000 back from my taxes. spending about 2k to get the car back to spec, getting a few things we NEED, and the rest is being saved.

What car do you plan on building? Another DA, or moving on to a different chassis?

Yeah, I’m not messing with seems, etc. Just getting rid of unnecessary holes from components I’ve removed from the bay. The shave will be fairly mild, but the tuck, while still “conservative” will be a little more elaborate. I don’t need a “magazine engine bay”. I just want something noticeably neater looking when the hood is up. I wouldn’t mind getting my car in HT again, this time for a proper shoot, though. But, I’m not gonna be butt-hurt if it doesn’t get in, lol.

I’ve already told myself I’ll never drive another DA. It wouldn’t be the same. If I do end up building another car, I’ll be going in a COMPLETELY different direction from how I built the DA.

I tried to keep the DA as streetable as possible: full interior, all accessories, subtle exterior, and the intended engine (B16A). What I have planned is a complete 180* from my old ways: gutted, caged, no accessories and a Frankenstein of an engine swap (lots more displacement).

…Or I could just say “FUCK IT!” and have one hell of a down payment on an S2000.

I was just talking to a friend who said he’d sell me his AP1 with a few mods (nothing critical) for $7800. good shape, but I don’t really want one now. And with one kid, and another coming in the next few weeks, it just wouldn’t be practical now.

My overall plans changed with this DA, as well. Like you, I wanted it to be very streetable (full interior, all accessories, :blah: )

but now, I’m just gonna gut the rear interior, eventually have a cage put in it, and eventually put in an aggressively built LS/VTEC. Gonna bore the current LS to 84mm (maybe just do 83.5 so I can have a little “cleanup” room if I need to rebuild down the road).

A friend of mine does cages for a few local competitors who compete in SCCA and NASA events in NoVA (northern VA) and West VA, and he says if I do the paint/bodywork on his car, he’d do a cage for me. I told him he had a deal. I’m gonna see if he’ll do the cage first, as he’s not ready for me to begin his body work.

I’ve been better… stuff happens… now i’m back…try to make things right now… i regret that it took so long… but… its over now.

Have a project in the works real soon… i hope… lol.

Thankfully, you’re back on the right path. Shit happens, like you said. all you can do, is wipe it up, and flush it away.

You gotta get me in the loop on this new project you’re hoping to work on.

[QUOTE=imcnblu;2126651]meh, i don’t know. I’m not the greatest at swapping gears etc. from case to case, and would rather keep it simple. i don’t mind the cable-to-hyrdo deal. I’ve driven a few cars with that setup, seemed okay to me. was definitely different, but nothing that I wouldn’t be fully used to within a few days or so of regular driving.

with all the work you do to your car swapping the two shafts would be a walk in the park. it sounds harder then it is. just something to think about and you would save on the conversion since you already have the ys1 case.

in reality doing the hydro conversion isn’t keeping it simple like you want to do.

Eh, we’ll see once I actually pick up the new transmission.

can i call shennanigans on this???

What do you mean?

good to have some old friends chatting it up in my thread

these are good times, indeed on G2IC

I’ll be posting up a build thread soon enough… just not sure if you guys will like it…

LOL!:fingban:

are you reeeeeeeaaaaallly planning on building again? i mean, reaaaaalllllllyyyyyyy?

(just busting your nuts kyle)

this is the guy that met you with the hatch for your car. cant wait to see this thing back on the road.

hey, matt.

i’m hoping to get things going with mine after this weekend. i’m gonna try to get Rob’s valve cover done on Sunday, and then start working hardcore on my car. assuming the weather cooperates, of course. damn mud

Just read the thread and I cant wait to see some pics! How have you been Jake? This is Brandon from the Hybrid Gaarge meet a while back (silver da/red wheels).

hey whats up? been a while.

I keep getting spam emails from your email account. Did your email get hacked?

anyway, I’m hoping to pull the car out of storage today and get started in pulling parts out and getting into the nitty gritty. will keep everyone posted as it goes.

i have to do a valve-cover/plug-wire cover paint job for ls/vtecstitch before I do anything on the integra.

Thanks for the hatch Rob. I’m gonna leave you some trader rating for it, btw. i forgot all about it the other day.

errr that sucks! lets keep this thing updated with tons of pics please

SOOOO…

went to start working on it, and there is still entirely too much mud in front of the storage shed. its gonna be at least another week before i can get started on it. damn snow storm from 2 months ago is killing me. the ground is still so soggy and wet, i’d be spinning wheels and stuck in mud.

:gay:

oh well. as SOON as its decent enough to come out, it will be started THAT day. things that will be addressed before it goes to the body shop for c-pillar repair:

*pull engine/trans
*detail cleaning the engine/trans itself
*paint engine/trans (i know some consider it tacky, but i’m not too worried about it. LS engine is NOT permanent, so its only gotta look good for a little while)
*wire tuck (not TOO extreme, just most wiring for headlights, etc. not messing with the engine harness. I’m not THAT picky about it.
*welding holes shut in the engine bay for shave
*good coat of paint/clear in the bay
*gutting rear interior

after that, its going to the body shop for structural repair and to a glass shop for side window installs.

Now, I have a couple questions about something I’ve been debating with.
I’m buying a battery (needed, old battery is OLD and dead. won’t hold a charge for more than a few hours, no matter what I do).
I was considering an Odyssey PC680, but its just too expensive for my taste right now. I found a cheaper alternative and it has the same overall specs as the Odyssey. am looking for a battery box to relocate the battery in a less conspicuous spot.

PWJDM offers a battery box for the PC680 (or similarly sized battery) But, again, its too expensive for just a battery box. Anyone know where I can find one like it (does NOT have to be carbon fiber. aluminum is fine) for a better price?

the idea behind the box is simple, just a flange to mount to the frame rail connected to a metal open-top box. sheetmetal works fine, you dont need a bracket. i didnt want to pay that price either, my box cost me 25 dollars.
