So I finally got my spoon style mirrors, meant for an EF, the installation is pretty straight forward.
Tools needed:
Philips screw driver
Flathead screw driver (for mirror plate and C clip for manual window handles )
Drill
3/8 drill bit
wire cutters (for powered mirrors only)
First remove door panel screws, you do not have to take the panel out, just move it so you have enough clearance to get to, and disconnect the power mirror wires.
Here’s a side by side shot of the stock mirrors versus the “Spoons” as you can see the stock mirrors have a strong base in which thick screws can go in. The other mirrors have small pegs, I had to initially use dry wall screws until I got some better ones. Your stock screws won’t work…
On to the drilling! The “Spoon” style mirror mounting points obviously don’t line up. Drilling to the side of the original mounting holes while lining things up as best as possible resolves this issue, and still allows for a strong hold. Be prepared to get frustrated when drilling in the area that is circled in red as there is a thicker piece of metal here. Bwaaa haaa haaa!!!
Here are the mirrors installed. Not really “perfect”, but its not meant for the DA so this’ll have to do.
Overall I have mixed feelings on these mirrors, I like them; but at the same time you can’t beat the quality of the original mirrors that came on the DA. Eh, I might keep these on for a little while.
As for the wiring, you’ll only need 3, These mirrors have 4. Black is ground , Brown is positive, and white is negative. On the DA, the color for positive is red, black is obviously going to black(ground) ,and as for the white wire I think it goes to a blue wire. I honestly don’t remember. You can cut the spare wire off of the mirrors. Installation requires some work as these mirrors aren’t for the DA. Eye things up as best as possible; open the doors and close them to ensure everything lines up, put preassure on the mirrors in the direction you want them to go, etc. Best of luck i’m sure you’ll get it. They shouldn’t be too far off from where the stock mirrors line up.
Thank you. I hear about the one pieces often, but I like how my car stands out with the fogs painted yellow. So many people have one pieces, IDK maybe one day I’ll get amber bumper lights, a JDP lip, and one pieces. If i can find one pieces at a good price I’ll consider it.
what were the size screws you use?
what steering wheel is that?
I used dry wall screws at first (this is what you see in the above image) I don’t remember what size screws I got. I just went to a Home depot with one of my mirrors and literally tested which screws would work best. As for the steering wheel, its from a 90 prelude. Bear in mind that if you do change to this wheel, your fingers will be very close to the turn signal and light switch. My fingers arent big so this works fine for me, but for others it can be dangerous.
Yessir it’s a lude wheel. You have to drill out the turn signal holes behind the steering wheel so that the DA’s fit in it. As for the CC, I merely cut the wires from the Lude wheel and paired it to th DA’s plug. It’s pretty straight forward when you see it.
