Installed YS1 tranny, Centerforce DF clutch and Clutchmasters 7.5 lb. flywheel

First things first… Much thanks to Dan (G2Guru) for helping me out with the install and rebuild of the YS1 that we installed. I dont think I would have been able to figure out how to rebuild that thing on my own.
We ended up replacing the 3rd gear set, all the ball bearings and a few other parts that needed to be replaced.
The clutch is awesome from what I can tell so far. There is a 500 mile break-in period for it and I only have 100 of those logged on so far, so in another 500+ miles I can write up a good review of this clutch for everyone. I have driven Dan’s teg a few times and it has this clutch and I could tell from those joyrides that it was an awesome clutch. That is what convinced me to get it.
The flywheel is awesome too, I love it. It revs so much faster with it in there (obviously with help from the tranny) and it also drops revs incredibly fast. I think it will help me out immensely for autox. I will find out for sure on sunday  Sometimes the revs will drop so fast that the idle cant compensate for the speedy drop that the engine will die. I am getting used to preventing that little side effect though.
Like I said before, I will write up a whole review when I get everything broken in and put a few hundred miles of cruising and shifting like normal on the new setup. Until then, I have to do my stop and go, economical break-in miles…
If anyone has any questions for the install or any of my new goodies just ask away. If anyone asks what all this put me back as far as money goes I will hunt you down and cut your nuts off

I posted this up yesterday but due to the “glitch” it got deleted this morning…

sounds like fun! i’m envious!

if you don’t mind me asking… how much did you pay for that tranny? and do you have any idea how much the parts cost to do the rebuild? I might have access to a gsr ys1 but it grinds 3rd occasionally.

how much did all that set you back?

(you asked for it! )

You didn’t mention either way, but did you swap in your LS 5th gear?

91integGS - I paid $300 for the tranny since 3rd gear was shot. I got it from Jeff (hybridsedan) so I knew I could trust him and he wouldnt screw me over.
I ended up paying $408 for the parts to do the rebuild. That included the 3rd gear set, all 3 ball bearings, 80mm thrust shim, a bunch of washers and a locknut. That price also included the throwout bearing for the clutch too. I get 20% off at honda and acura so that would have normally been around $600. I like getting deals

pxpx - Watch it, I know where you live

Leftcorner - No way in hell. Why would I want to do that?? I am just gonna get my valve springs, retainers and an ECU so I can rev somewhere between 8000-8500 rpm and then I will get my top end back. Anyway, I should have that shiz anyway for my cams…
I am not too worried about spending a couple extra bucks for gas here and there because of my mileage, I make enough to not have to worry about that.

thanks BR! I guess i’ll have to see if i can get the tranny, and then find out how much it’d cost to fix. It would really be nice if i could fix it myself though.

congrats! next time i should have some of the “joy rides” , u had on dan’s, on ur car.

LS 5th is to save your ears! not your wallet.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Ok maybe a bit of wear on the engine too.

Not for me, I have an RS*R catback on my teg. It is quiet all the time and I dont get too rev happy anyway. Ok, so maybe I will be rev happy for a while after the break-in period, but that is a given. I gotta “test” out the new mods

awesome, br…

i opted have the centerforce df too, and i love every aspect of it. i got the itr flywheel in, which is about 15 lbs., but i wish it was a little less, somewhere around 10 lbs or so would be nice. 7.5 seems really light, do you have to blip the throttle when you’re just taking the car out of gear to neutral?

I think he pushes in the clutch;)

I wrote a long reply and it got deleted. I am too tired to type another one.
Anyway, I have 7lb. flywheel in my car and it feels just lovely. Yes, I lose some low end torque, but, who wants to spin tires and stand still anyway?

Congrats on the new clutch, enjoy it!

Oh yeah, B R, Happy Birthday. If I was local I would take you out for a juicy steak and lobster dinner!!!

I agree with the RS*R keeping your car quite at highway speeds in 5th. I cruise around 4,500rpms on the freeway and my car is just as quiet as it was with my stock tranny.

One question Jason, if you got the tranny from Jeff, what is he using or planning to use? And I’ve ridden with him…only third was gone huh? hahahahahaha :stuck_out_tongue:

LOL, naw, he’ll just have a onion loaf and some whiskey.

Very cool Jason, sounds like a killer setup. Your gonna hafta let me drive your car sometime, that is if you dont mind:) Ive never driven a YS1 tranny and Id like to try. See what them gear ratios are all about.

Happy belated Birthday Jason. I was glad I could help you out. It was fun. Now enjoy your slow shifting for the next 400 miles. Then the real fun begins. hehehe.

Here are a couple of pics from the project… feel free to see more on my image station account…

Clean Tranny Casing with new bearings installed…

Mainshaft assembled…

Look…Jason is wearing headphones…or earmuffs. I can’t figure out which one.

Clutchmaster’s 7.5lb. flywheel installed…

Holly headphones Batman!! Look at dem things. Theyre gonna need thier own zipcode before too much longer. Nice pix Dan:)

Kinda funny, but I hadn’t seen Jason since HIN in Seattle. When he knocked on my door Friday night…I just stood there and stared at him for a minute…I didn’t let him in. I was totally blocking the doorway. hehehehehe

LOL … Jason, those things are getting HUGE man … nice to see you showing your support for the 'burns peoples tho :D.

Nice job on the install guys … the tranny is the one system on our car that I just have no clue about … looks like you guys did an awesome job (I see that Acura service manual ;)). Have fun with it Jason, I wonder if you’ll be able to hold out for 400 more miles :D.

hey B R whats the RPM at 80mph???

Great job guys. I look forward to testing that setup.

[typical homer voice while drooling]Umm… tranny… aawww fdas***dfafd…
