Dan:

Would the ITR flywheel swap right in my 90 LS b18? how much would that run me ? also… is it safe?

Ryan

Steve, you forget who you’re talking to. I wash my suspension once a month…hehehehe. I’m the king at finding dirt and ELIMINATING IT :smiley: !!!

Leif, don’t worry. My car is a mess right now too. Damn rain.

Ryan, the ITR flywheel will bolt right up, but you will only be able to use 6 of your clutch bolts. It will run you about $200 for the flywheel. And ALWAYS use a new clutch with a new or resurfaced flywheel. Don’t want any chattering now do we? You can have your stock flywheel lightened to 13lbs. (1lb. lighter than the ITR flywheel) and balanced for under $200. this is the setup I’m running and it’s great. No problems whatsoever. Best of luck.

Wow…I’m lucky if I brush me teeth once a month!!! I didn’t know you took it to that level. Are the inner walls of your gas tank color matched like your moldings?:smiley: :rofl: :evil:

BR, just to let you know, the type r flywheel is 15 lbs and gs-r is 17 lbs stock. I’m pretty sure!!:slight_smile:

Actually, you are off 1 lb. on each. Here’s some flywheel weights for you…

RS, LS, GS, GSR = 18lbs.
ITR = 14lbs.
Toda = 9lbs.
JUN = 9lbs.
Spoon = 9lbs.
Clutchmasters = 7.5lbs.

I have held all of these in my hands except for the Spoon flywheel.

dan, i might have access to a gsr ys1 tranny pretty soon. The only problem is that my friend said it grinds 3 most of the time. any idea what all would need to be replaced to make it good again? how much it would cost? and if i would need to have it done professionally?

You could get away with just replacing the 3rd gear synchro. The only problem is that Honda (sometimes I hate them) doesn’t sell the synchro (brass) from the gear set. So you have to buy 3rd gear, 3rd gear synchro, and syncrho coupler. It kinda sucks. So minimum you’re looking at $300. But I recommend replacing the mainshaft bearings (the two at the far ends) and the top countershaft bearing. New seals are definitely a good idea. And then it’s not the task for the novice mechanic, but paying someone gets expensive. Usually around $300 to install the gears. I typically charge about $150 to do a job like this (not including tranny removal and installation. Let me know if you have any other questions. Later.

thanks for the info. I guess i’ll just have to price things out when the time comes. The reason why i’d like to use that tranny is because i might end up owning it either way. My friend just totalled his 92 GSR. I’m in the process of working out a deal with the insurance company in which i could buy the car back. I figure starting with a full swap (engine, tranny, ecu, all wiring…) would be better off than me sticking with the b17a longblock i already have, and just trying to round up all the misc extra parts i’d need.

how much would the mainshaft bearings, and all the seals run me? Most likely too much for me to worry about, but i figured i’d ask anyway.

also, would the 3rd gear synchro out of my ls tranny work? Cause my tranny has never grinds 3rd.

so, i guess we’ll just have to see what happens. I wish you were local!!! that would make my life so much easier, lol!

thanks again.

91IntegGS - I just happen to have a price list of everything that is needed to do your rebuild the right way… I will just get the prices right off of my receipt…

Top mainshaft ball bearing - $60.58
Lower mainshaft ball bearing - $35.90
3rd gear set - $278.17
Countershaft ball bearing - $30.20
Oil seals - $8.46, $9.53, $11.16
Countershaft locknut - $9.50
10mm washer - $2.60
12mm washer - $0.68 (need 2)
14mm washer - $0.38
20mm washer - $0.71

There is also one more washer you need for the tranny drain plug that I forgot to get. I ended up just using the old one and it is working fine…
Oh, and the above prices are the list prices from the dealer. I get a discount from the dealer so that is why my total is different than what those prices add up to.

I also just realized that my price of $408.44 wasnt the total, that is just what I paid. I brought back a part that I didnt need that credited me $37.49 toward my parts. I also picked up a release bearing for the clutch and that runs $59.20…

I think that is it…

I saw your tranny at Dan’s while I was down there, think you got enough packing material in that box?? hehehe.
I hope you dont mind, but I had to take some parts off of it to finish my rebuild…j/k

Hahahah…Dan said to pack it well…so I guess I kind of over did it huh?

Hey hey hey…you better put back those parts or buy me new ones dude!

Very cool, I’m still in the dark as to how that whole adpect of the car works but those pics help a little. Oh well, soon enough Dan will be installing my new clutch and flywheel so hopefully I can learn a thing or two.

Nice work Jason,

Leif

Thanks Leif, I will try to make it down for your install too and give you guys a hand. Just let me know when you are going to go a couple weeks in advance…

Hey I took my tranny apart to change the synchros. I’m having a biotch of a time trying to get the main and countershafts out of the bell housing. Any suggestions? I was thinking about getting some type of pulley puller type thing, but I don’t have much to grasp onto with for leverage. Shanks!

rcnacura - Are you talking about getting these gears out of this casing…

If so, it is a lot easier with two people. One to pull straight up on the gears and the other to work the shift forks and the reverse gear off.
Does that help at all?? Let me know if I can help you out anymore.

BR

Well they are stuck in the other side. Both shafts are. I have some gears that are off, but I still need to get the other sides out. But Just stuck inside.
