intercooler piping question

alright…

i found a way to keep ac and full rad with stock fans.

the only thing thats bothering me is how to squeeze it in between the block and rad so i can bolt it on…

the only was ive been able to do was take the turbo off the manifold, put it all in the engine bay, then bolt the manifold onto the head, then bolt the turbo onto the manifold…

its really hard to do that.

do you guys take out the radiator, drop it all in, then put back the radiator?

^^^you wouldn’t have this problem if you would’ve ditched the A/C.
haha…sorry man, i had too say it. sounds like putting it together the way you said is your only choice, unless you can put it together and come in from underneath. theres a good bit of room if you remove all the plastic guards.

good luck.

i did it with a regular 2.5" hole saw attached to a drill. you may not have to, but i went through with a sawzall to clear extra space so the piping wouldn’t get too scratched up. make sure the hole saw is for metal. took me about 10 min. max![/QUOTE]

Don’t take this the wrong way, but are those pictures of a Teg? I was looking at some other pictures, and if I’m not mistaken, isn’t that the spot where radius rod connects to ?

2nd_gen: in response to your question, YES, you have to pull the radiator out, install the manifold/turbo/downpipe etc., then reinstall the radiator and fill’er up. even if you tried to come in from the bottom, you’d run into the front crossmember, so that’s not even an option.

thelate1: even if he pulled his AC out, he’d still have to take the radiator out to install everything. regardless of whether the AC components are there or not, the radiator will still have to be mounted in the exact same location unless he further modified how it would be mounted.

frozenrice: those are the actual pictures from my 1993 Acura Integra GS. you are only making a hole in the radiator support. the front crossmember (where the radius rod connects to) is untouched.

That’s good news then. I was obviously misreading the pictures that I was looking at. I confused that spot with where the radius rod connection was.

i didn’t have to remove my radiator at all, and i had plenty of room from the top.

did you have stock or aftermarket fans? i’m looking at my engine bay and even if the AC lines were removed, i’d still have a hard time fitting the manifold/turbo assembly in there without bending any fins on the radiator. what manifold/turbo set up did you have? i’d like to see pictures of your set up if you don’t mind.

i have the stock fan. i did pull the a/c fan since i don’t have a/c anymore. spoolin log manifold, w/ garrett t3 .42/.48
this is the best pic i have of my progress so far. hth.
this pic makes my turbo look huge…even though it’s not.:frowning:

So how do you guys drive without washer bottle?
Why not just route the pipes under the rad support?
I’m guessing since i no longer have da and might have forgot how the clearences are there.

^ i’d be scaping everywhere if i put the pipes under there. i had laid it out though to try. they would hit my downpipe too. PA roads are aweful. as far as driving w/o washer bottle, my DA doesn’t see rain unless she doesn’t make it home in time… that doesn’t happen very often. this isn’t my dd either.

I have a Del Sol 1/2 rad that I’m thinking about using. With the space savings I’m thinking that I might have room to squeeze in a washer bottle from a 90 Toyota pickup in the space where 1/2 of the old rad was. The bottle from the truck is kind of flat like a rad. I’ll try to get some pics of the tank…

thelate1 , do you have any pics of your downpipe and return line? I’m intrested in how you have it setup! (im looking to do the same setup)

have to give me a little time. haven’t got to that yet. i’ll post when i do.
