Intercoolers...How do you guys make them fit?

I’m curious if you guys could post some pics of how you got your intercoolers to fit. I’m in the planning stage right now and wasn’t quite sure how you guys do it. One thing I’m pretty sure is in the way is the hood latch. Did you guys mod that?

TIA

What size intercooler are you using? You souldn’t have to modify the hoodlatch at all. Here’s a link to some pics of mine, it’s 8" tall which is the tallest that most will use on our cars, and I didn’t have to touch the hoodlatch. I actually used the hoodlatch for one of my mounts as you can see.

I did however have to cut out the whole center section of the metal bumper support. All I kept were the 2 parts that bolt to the car, and completely cut out the rest. I also had to trim down random peices of the bumper cover. My best advice is to take off the cover and support, and mock up where you want the IC to go, and then see what you have to do from there (cutting the supports and cover, etc,)

Mine is quite a bit smaller. Its an old style JRC, I don’t think they make em any more. Didn’t have to cut any metal…

Also, we put a Precision in a GS-R without cuting anything. K9N has pics of it I think.

It’s so tiny and cute!

hahaha, but i made more than 150whp with it! :nana:

Now as far as piping goes. On the driver’s side are you guys running that along the washer fluid resevoir? I took out that little A/C canister a while ago so there is a decent hole there. Or are you guys cutting holes in the frame rail?

With the power steering lines still there, I didn’t have enough room to fit 2.5" pipe through where the A/C canister was, so I had to cut through the frame. It wasn’t any fun at all. A 2" pipe may fit through, but it would have to be precise and would still be close.

You can see in my pic above, no A/C components, no washer resevior and (cant see) no Power steering parts. I got a 2.5" charge pipe through without any cutting.

EDIT: oh, and i relocated the horn as you can see in the pic.

Yea you can definitely fit without all of that stuff. And I also relocated both horns.

I got a evo III front mount IC and didnt have to cut anything jsut bought some brackets from ace hardware, painted them redrilled them and BAM looks great id post pics if i knew how…

heres some pics and my opinion based on my experience

avoid super tall intercoolers unless you want to do alot of cutting,
youre most likely going to have to trim the bumper slightly but it will look better if the bumper and IC are flush anyway,
relatocate horns, use the old horn mounts with brackets to mount, hope these help
