Interesting VIN# Appearance

Hi Everyone,

Some is claiming that they have found Canadian VIN 00001 93 GS-R.
This has been widely known a VIN that doesn’t exist. The person is stating that this car was in the hands of a motorsports team and was then later abandoned. What’s interesting here is the the history of the car and the vin and determining the validating of this cars history and whether or not it is really a car carrying VIN# 1

Interested in hearing the thoughts of others.

I’m pretty sure the last 6 numbers are the “serial number” / “production sequence number”, so this is actually 800,001 . I mean the numbers in the text don’t match the stamped numbers.

Looks like more attention farming (big surprise! ) but I’m more interested in what’s being done with the car more than the number.

First, NFULFX, I’ve known you and I’ve been a G2IC member since 2003. I don’t need to post anything to grab attention. Second, this isn’t my car so I could not care less about attention. Someone is claiming they found this car and it’s very interesting if your an enthusiast and historian.

  1. The 8 indicates a Canadian VIN. The number is #1 in the production and would have to be a pre-pro Canadian VIN that was never sold to the public. So my interest is truly in the facts and history of this car.

Ah no bro I meant THAT person is trying to get attention i.e. “sharperracerofficial” ! I didn’t mean it that YOU were doing it hehe

I have never heard of a Canadian VIN vs just the codes from Japan and the breakdown. So that’s news to me really.

I’m going off this post from way back too:

I don’t know whether this was ever legitimized.

I see how it misinterpreted your reply now that you say this. Thanks for clarifying. I have a feeling this is not legitimate.

From my previous experience with VIN research “8” typically signifies a CDM car for Honda/Acura. Aligns with this post too:

Very interesting!

I wonder why Japan would segment a number sequence like this instead of using a country code elsewhere.

A 1992 or 1993 Helms would solidify this 8xxxxx number set further, should there have been any updates since 1990. But that page is legit. o7

i like how it just has DA9 and DB1 chassis codes because DB2 wasn’t introduced yet
also the US model doesnt have that number 8 in the serial number for some reason

You would think that Honda would need to distinguish the VINS of different markets. If they indeed did it with the first digit of the SN, that would give them 10 market differences. For example, Canada had Daytime running lights, no auto seatbelts, Black GS-Rs, KPH odometer.

I get it. I just found it strange that they would segment off the serial numbers to do it vs another check digit in the VIN. By segmenting it off, they are limiting how many they can sell, (I assume) considering also it won’t be 99,999 cars, but some number less than that because the numbers aren’t incrementing by 1. Perhaps this limit was intentional for demand, or maybe even budgetary reasons. It would be great to pick the brain of the person who authorized it

i wonder if an rs and an ls could both have the same serial number at the end but because the model numbers are different in the vin it is still different vins? probably not but just a thought
