ok i searched and found that you cannot change the internal wastegate spring on my t3 from a 84 saab. i was wondering if by any chance anyone knows what the wastegate is set at because i dont want to run more then 8 psi. The turbo is from an 1984 saab 900 w/ apc. the only thing i see is that the acuator rod for the wastegate is threaded? thanks for any help!
Cant you install a manual boost controller on the vacum line? As for the boost, dont you have a boost guage?
thats what i would ask you too…
Just get a manual boost controller for cheap, and problem solved. And the arm is threaded so you can adjust the preload on the wastegate, which is an awesome feature. My 14b is no adjustable the preload got messed up, so I had to shorten the arm and reweld it together.
uhm what im saying is that you cant just set the boost on the controller. you cant have a boost controler set to a lower psi then the wastegate is, hence why i want to know what the stock spring is set at.
also so that rod being threaded means i can adjust the psi the wastegate actuates at? that would be awesome!
Sorry, I misread your original post, I thought you wanted more than the stock spring. In that case, there isnt much you can do. If you try to adjust it with the threaded preload, that will probably do some funky things to you. All it will do is allow the wastegate to be cracked open at all times.
once you get the car running just keep a close eye on your boost guage and then go from there, i have a feeling that the man boost controller will work, also you could find out what the spring is but my experience is that depending on dif problems it may not be at spec
A manual boost controller will not lower boost. You can only raise boost with a boost controller.
yea i know that whats im syaing… so does anyone know from experience how much psi the stock spring is?
I’m not sure particularly about the saab turbos, but most stock turbos are around 7-9psi I think, don’t hold me to that though. I just know my stock dsm turbo is 9psi.
you won’t have a problem with any factory internal wastegate. its a small turbo up to 12psi is perfectly safe.
i donno i dont think 12 psi is to safe, i was aiming to be very reliable because i drive the car alot.
