is the b16a swap worth it in a da

im sure this question has been asked before but is the b16 better then the ls in the da i guess im trying to ask is the top end power of the b16a which is what im looking for more top end but is it worth losing the tq of the ls or is it slower then the ls in the da because my ls is slowwwww lol and its old and dying but i figured i would get a b16 since its cheap over getting another ls motor whats u guys opinions oh and i also have a jdm b18c block im gonna build in the future but for now i want the b16

yep, they’re really fun!

yea i figured they would be i mean im not looking for a track beast just something with a lil more power then my tired ls motor

The B16 is a wicked little motor, what other engine makes 160bhp out of an N/A 1.6?

There very reliable and well worth the swap

Love it, great track engine, the 73mm stroke allows for extremely high sustained RPMs with relatively low piston speeds. Not a torque monster but if you track your car it will help you become a better driver as the lack of torque will not cover up your mistakes, forcing you to carry more speed and drive properly.

what kind of numbers does a stock b16 swapped da do on the strip?

That very much depends on the gearbox i think, my Xsi feels very quick over short distances but iv never quarter miled it.

I don’t really know. My friend has a B16 in his DA, and I have a stock LS with bolt-ons and stock LS cable tranny. I get him everytime by almost 2 car lengths, but if you want to go vtec, that’s a good swap. I’ve even pulled GSRs swaps hatches and newer civics with the k20. I love my stock LS.

im with u my boii…the LS motor be taking them b16 civic’s…

lol yall must have some magic ls motors cause my ls is slow top end wise now 1/8 mile yea it pull a lil on the b16 but after that the b16 always pulls on me top end my ls dies after like 5800 rpms i mean regardless im getting the b16 because im going poorman type r later on i have a jdm b18c block sitting in the house that im gonna build up

I don’t think the b16 is worth it at least not in our heavy cars. We need torque. I have a b17 runs great but holy crap you either putter around or rev it up I grew up with chevy v8s and had a saab turbo and torque and power at 2k rpm is awesome.

I would say keep your ls, get a pr3 vtec head for 300-400, make a ls vtec that has the topend and torque. Now you have power between 2000-5000 rpm which is where the b16 really, really needs it.

I would not do it personally. Just bolt on some parts to the ls and it’ll be way better. You’re basically losing mad torque to gain 20 hp. But do what you gotta do.

I’ll chime in that I don’t think it’s worth it either.

Keep the TQ of the LS. B16 might have more HP, but only in high RPMs. If you want to rev the piss out of it all the time - yea, it’s a fun peppy motor. But for daily driving I think the LS has more usable power.

Not a single punctuation in that whole paragraph, but yeh I get your drift. I think the B16 is what you’re looking for. It has a lot more top end than the LS motor and should be faster in the long run…Sure you have to rev the snot out of the engine, but that’s what it takes. Since when was a GSR slower than a LS?? That has a B17 which is essentially a B16. The XSI has slightly more power than the GSR and that has a 170HP B16. Here is a nice thread:

b16 in a DA

Well I had an B18a previously with I/H/E it was fine but NO way as quick as my teg now with the B16a. If you compare the stock 0-60mph time of a LS ( 8.3 seconds) to a stock jdm xsi integra (6.7 seconds) you will see that the b16 is quicker. LS-Vtec are cool but you sacrifice reliability and some of you will say," Nooo you can totally build a reliable LS-V." and they will have some merit, but compared to a stock b16 their reliability sucks especially if you are racing and revving the snot out of it. I will agree that the b16 does lack torque but what helps with this torque issue is proper gearing. If you use a b16 with a ls tranny you are wasting your money. However if you get the xsi setup like I do (b16a w/ YS1 tranny w/ OEM limited slip diff) You won’t have to worry about this torque issue. I have been clocked at the track going from 0-60mph in 6.1 seconds and that is pretty damn quick for our “heavy cars,” but I think a lot of it comes down to drivers ability. FYI I do not drag race anymore (unless I take out my buddy’s Merc AMG V12) because driving in a straight line became to easy, all I do is autocross now and it is amazing with that little b16 just because I can be in 2 gear at about 60mph trying doing that with a B18

Just my long .02 cents :read:

that torque will lose to v-tec on 2nd gear no doubt

when i had a b18a in my old teg with i/h/e. it still felt slow. lots of torque, no top end at all. pretty weak… I have an xsi now and god i love the way it drives!

us BC boyz know how to roll! :werd:

B20Z with a B16 transmission is the way to go. The only reason the B20 isn’t any more popular of a swap is because it’s illegal in California where half the import tuners live. For those of us on the other coast, it’s the best bang for the buck with about 160hp and 140 ft-lbs tq… and only about $700-800.
