Is this a regular t3 flange?

Im just curious if the flange on this turbo is a regular t3 flange. I’ll be getting a manifold right away and just want to know if I have to get a different flange or not…I’ve seen the flange for the t3 before and this looks very similar but just looking for somebody to confirm it…I believe the turbo is off of a Volvo…
thanks

No, it’s not a normal t3! i’m running the same turbo. I took my manifold (T3 Flange) and turbo to a machine shop and they made it work for like $75. cause the volvo turbo’s have the round gasket around the top, they actually welded it so it was rectangle (T3). It’s been a great turbo if used with the right manifold it spool’s quick 3000rpm all the way to 9000rpm. I made 261hp to the wheels on 9lbs. with stock injectors!

flange

just wondering if there are any other solutions other then welding the turbo to the manifold…Is there maybe an adapter plate or something?

i used mine like that anyways… it has a exhuast leak but… other than that it worked…

i have a turbo with a manifold just like that one. i dont know wat to do about the flange either.

i have the same problem. the A/R on these turbos is .52. is that good?

I’ll buy the .52 trim turbo off you if you cant make it work!
the machine shop i took my turbo to filled in the round part to make it a square opening…so a t3 flange and gasket could be used …with no leaking!

what did they use to fill it?

i dont know?
just take it to a machine shop they know what there doing! :bang:

That turbo is fucking awesome i used it and it spooled at 3k and held strong to redline at 11lbs, anyway you should bring it to a machine shop and ask them to “plane” the flange, it will shave off all the excess metal on the top and make it completely flat so it will seal properly on the manifold. you need to take the exhaust housing off first before you bring it up to them though, dont worry there is not a gasket on that section b/w the housing and the center section. if you dont get it planed then you will leak exhaust out the sides of the flange and you will never get the car to run right. hope this helps

you can also find a shop that specializes in turbo’s and buy another exhaust housing !!!

flanges

thanks for all the replies… You’ve all been really helpful… Im going to weigh out my options and see what the cheaper and more effective route will be… I like the idea of getting the excess material removed but if it comes down to it i might me able to get an adapter plate of some sort made for it…
thanks again.

If you faxed me a copy of the pattern I could have one made for you. CNC’ed pwn3s!

i have another question about this turbo. as u can see its a water/oil cooled turbo. im wondering if im gonna install it on my car do i have to do both cooling systems (water/oil) or can i just stick with oil? also if i can stick with oil… if so then wich 2 of the 4 inlets/outlets are for the oil cooling??? the pics are above. thanks in advance

You dont have to use the water cooling but why not use it if its there…

that will just complicate things even more for me… some one has an answer to my question?

no you can run just oil and it will be just fine, and the oil feed and returns are the one that use flanges and the water outlets use the banjo bolts

do the water ones need to be sealed when i installed the turbo or can i just leave em open?

open, they dont need to be done with our cars.

I made a 1/8th inch thick flange that fits inbetween my manifold and turbo with the same bolt pattern but covered the “dish”. Then i put 2 peices of thin aluminum metal for a gasket and it has been fine. I will post a pic eventually
