This whole setup would eliminate MANY headaches such as the tranny problem. However, I think it would be kinda hard to find a low mileage GSR motor equivilent to that of a 99 or 00 ITR. How much did you pay for your B17 swap? And, was it complete? Also, where did you get it? The link you posted earlier showed no B17’s.
I figure I could get a B17, rebuilt the motor and the tranny for the same cost of an ITR swap. Anyone think not? Another idea I was throwing around was getting the B17, then putting the ITR head on it. The only difference is the dual intake and exhaust valves right? Remember, I have an LS. The closest I get to a Vtec motor is my buddies 99 Si… and boy is it fun. Not near as much torque, but I love hitting Vtec in that bitch.
Colin, by the way, I was wondering if I could come and check out your b17 one of these days. I wanted to check out the tranny visually so I know what’s what. Besides, I’ve never seen a B17 in person… Man, after typing this, that’s definitely what I’m gonna do. Besides, not too many people have them right?

nick, you can get any 92-93 gsr motor, just tell them its from a 93. They won’t check the block number, and i really doubt they actually have the resources to trace it back. The electronics are the same so they won’t know the difference.
well, i first purchased a b17a w/ 125k on it (longblock and ecu) for $1200. Later on i lucked out and found a totalled 92 gsr for $700…in the end for towing costs and what not it was more like $900. I really lucked out and its really the only reason i’m able to do my swap.
Well, the motor isn’t running yet, it won’t start, i’m not getting any spark, and i need the car running for school tomorrow! Any chance you wanna drive up to temecula and let me test mey dist on your car? hehe, i’m sorta joking but seriously if you’re not doing anything today it’d save me some confusion and maybe some $$.
b17a and itr heads are the same except:
-itr has slight port/polish
-itr has beefier cams and valvetrain
To me you seem like the type of guy who’ll be forking out for headwork and some serious cams in the future anyway. Because of that i’d keep the b17a stock and just upgrade it later with stuff thats better than the itr components. It’ll be cheaper in the long run…but it depends on what you have planned.
let me know if you have any questions, i’m becoming fairly familiar w/ b17 stuff, so just let me know. Give me a call (909 764 6742) and whenever i get it running you can come by and check it out. Oh, and i’ll be living in SD soon, so we should meet up.
