How the hell did you just pay the ticket?? What did you get pulled over for? From what the CHIP told me, the only way to resolve this incident was to get my car REF’d. If you know of any kind of loop hole, let me know.
i have heard of some people getting state ref tickets. and paying it out.
but… it all depends on how the officer wrote it out. what code he put in.
like i think someone said earlier, there are several codes for things like “window tint”
one code, is a easy sign off, remove it, and sign it off…
another code, same name, different number, is not a sign off. you can try to remove your tint, but it is not able to be signed off. you will have to remove it, and pay the penalty.
same goes with REF tickets maybe? when i got pulled over for “not yielding to pedestrians” and they found my “adjustable cam & modified intake pipe” (vortech supercharger) i got my ticket in the mail for either $750 or $1250 (forgot, it was a while ago) it was either pay the amount, or go fight it.
of course i fought it, and cop didnt show up. so i got off the hook with it…
but if you do have the resources to get it all done & ref it, why not spend the money you would use to pay the ticket off, to just fix everything the way it should be. and not be hassled for it again later? and then pay another $500 or so later on…
tEgBoI, I’m thinking that I’m more than likely going to get it done. I was just curious. I mean, it really wasnt a moving violation. It was a visual thing then he noticed the exhaust when he got behind me. Okay heres my question…
When I get my car BAR’d and pass…then I have to take it to the State Ref who will hopefull pass me?? Is that how it works?
to get it bar legal. you take it to a state referee. he does all visual checks, all equipment testing, and smog… and that’s where you get your certificate, your stamp on your engine bay or door jamb, and take that to court…
Oh Ok. Thanks. I just wanna make sure I’m doing it right the first time. Thats why I’m asking all these questions. I pretty much have a deadline of July 10th so I’m reviewing all of my options. Thanks for all of your help though.
yes, there are many diffrent tickets that u can get for one offence… the one i happen to get was the payable one… he took pics of my swap and everything…
Well I got pulled over yesterday by the California Highway Patrol. I wasnt speeding or driving crazy. I was just driving normally trying my hardest not to make too much noise with my exhaust. Well I got pulled over becuase I’m missing my front license plate and he then noticed my exhaust. Well after further inspection of my vehicle, he asked me to “Pop my Hood”…As soon as he opened it he saw the Intake, Headers, Injectors, VTEC wiring, and pretty much knew it was a swap. I didnt really think that the average CHP officer knew too much about VTEC motors but I guess he did. Well to make a long story short, He gave me a ticket for the Front License plate and the modified exhaust…I thought it was all good until he told me to look at the back of the ticket…
STATE REFEREE CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
-NO OFFICER SIGN OFF (Vehicle must be
removed from the roadway immediately and
may not be driven until in compliance.
So pretty much…I’m fucked Right?
Man… I don’t know why people still let a cop open their hood. You have the right to refuse I done it before. The police officer will start asking harsher question but you should be able to handle it.
if you say no dont they need a warrant? its not in view of the officer…
I thought about it for split second, but I then realized that the CHIPPER was trying to be cool about the whole situation and ultimately he probably would have towed my car or given me a REF ticket anyway for my exhaust. So either way I was fucked.
Wouldn’t they tow your car and wait till they get a search warrant to pop the hood, since you refuse to do it at the time you get pulled over? Which means more fees to deal with?
if a cop had a legitimate reason to pull you over, to search you/your car for weapons or drugs. the engine compartment is a storage area where they can legally search.
all depends on how they come at you/how they explain to the judge about it.
for the 2nd or third time…
You guys are killing me.
To pass inspection in Mississippi, you just need a current tag (rear only) and a good windshield. Pay your $5 and be on your way.
( I assume that the flamings will come about hillbillies, etc…)
And in Arkansas (where teh rest of the family lives, they did AWAY with the inspection process. Hell, they don’t even require helmets for motorcycles or scooters.
As long as you aren’t hiding “illegals” or dope in you car, you are good.
Yeeeeeeehaaaaaaa.
Yep, thats how it is here in the Golden State. I guess we’ve got way too many drivers here in the state to make a significant impact on the environment. It sucks, but its what I gotta do to be legit.
By the way…all the guys who are saying to refuse popping my hood…was it a CHP cop that asked you, or a local cop? There is a difference. I would probably refuse a local but definetely not a CHP.
because they look meaner or what?
do whatever you want as long as its not stupid (ie, refuse if you want). you’re fucked either way so try everything you can. good luck with this. california seriously sucks with all the crazy emission laws. nyc has been giving out tickets like crazy recently for tints and exhaust. im not tinting my windows and my exhaust isnt too loud if i dont step on it.
edit: sidenote: i think mods should have a way of cleaning up threads by deleting unnecessary posts because this seems like a pretty good thread with a serious issue.
I respect CHP…i was thinking about CHP if college didnt work out for me. Being Asian and a minority i probably would’ve gotten in.
Not because they look meaner, but because around here CHP is notorious for fucking with “Import Cars” as opposed to local cops who are generally looking for suspicious activity and or DUI suspects. I’ve been pulled over by BPD(Bakersfield Police Dept) and they just want to make sure that I’m insured and not under the influence usually. All moving violations are usually pretty common, and dont necessarily require any need to “Pop ones hood”.
u get that ticket in the mail yet?
Nope. Not yet. I really want to see it so I can pay it off. I’ve decided to just pay it off if its not too expensive adn then later on convert my car to pass BAR.
So how long does it usually take to get in the mail? I still havent received it.
