john's Intergra build Pt:2

so the first da build ( http://forums.g2ic.com/showthread.php?211271-John-s-1991-R-72P-Integra-restoration-thread ) was put on hold because i was rear ended in traffic, then the insurance company totaled it. So I bought it back, started stripping it, and picked up a 1990.

ill need the parts off the totaled da so I can replace almost everything on this 1990 I picked up.

its a 1990 with a 93 front end, 94 ls motor, dc headers, s.s catback (looks like ebay brand), tokico blues, i also picked up some new coilover sleeves, extended tophats, and a ton of other stuff. gave the kid the headlights back before i took the car.
im also going to swap the side mouldings because I hate the way the body color pained ones look.
threw together this relay setup for the front bumper lights

there are some bottlecap wheels I am refinishing in case you havent seen them,

here they are pre-rouge

after high-speed rouge

i also picked up a nardi torino woodgrain, ill get some pics up once i refinish the wood and polish it up.

got nearly new headlight brackets and some flush screws and washers, amber corners also.

should start tearing into the 1990 within the next week. ill keep updating with pics of stuff noone cares about haha.
later.

Keep the pics, tips, and stories coming! I liked your Part 1 thread. I don’t know exactly why, but I love restorations.

I may have to do a write up on mine

interior piled away, waiting to be transplanted.

interior in its prime after i finish the ultimate cleaning.

sewed up a shift boot and am messing around with some interior ideas now that i have a spare interior.

the headlight housings were trash so i salvaged the lights and and going to put them in the fresh housings i have.

my nardi woodgrain, going to tape off the metal and start refinishing the wood.

going to pull the motor and trans from the 91 and refinish/freshen them up.

pulled most of the engine bay brackets and sand blasted/painted them.

any exposed fastener will be replaced with a flush head.

oh and if its my birthday, im always ordering the 12oz filet mignon-xt rare, side of onion rings and whisky/rocks. yes please.

crappy cell pic, but it was the best damn filet ive had in years.

hopefully start tearing into the new build this week. never can seem to get started.
still to pull from the 91…
front splash shields
front steering knuckles
tie rods
windshield
doors
hatch

been workin on the other ride that keeps me busy while I wait for the 90 to be towed to my school.
added a trans cooler as the car just hit 116k and I would like the transmission to stay together for another 100k at least. I dont plan on selling the car anytime soon.

I fitted the factory side deflector on the pass side today with a little trimming, I didnt get a pic of it though.

also i test fitted my wheels once again as I am still saving up for tires. They are 19x8.5 et35 DeCorsa “Avants” Just for the hell of it heres a crap pic real quick.

got the motor and trans pulled, im going to have to get and new clutch kit and flywheel. cleaning it all up and putting new gaskets in.
valve cover set
oil pan
cam plug
water pipe o-rings
thermostat/housing
pcv
exhaust/intake

this motor was incredible dirty

got it cleaner, and started on the intake and transmission.

im going to paint the valve cover and header flat black, to go against the rubbed cast block and trans.

so over the past few weeks ive been getting some work done.
got the motor sealed up with all new gaskets. painted the rest of the brackets and v.c

got the coilover sleeves and extended tophats installed

cleaned and re-taped the engine harness

threw one of the bottlecaps that is next up for wetsanding, just wanted to see what the offset is going to look like.

got the rest of the interior stripped out of the 90. saved the pass side bolster as i am going to re-stitch it back onto the seat i already have with the ripped side bolster.

got the door and fender fitted. i swapped them as they are rot free. also the fender is dented but the front of it near the sidemarker is straight and will allow the headlight housing to sit properly.

also i am going to swap everything to black molding and black mirror, but i will have to paint the bumpers rub strip back to black.

got the factory air box back in, also the air duct that feeds air into the box from the right fog lamp.

just getting the car to pass inspection then I will be taking it to my shop for the real teardown to begin.

just got tired of looking at the crappy fitment of the cf hood, so i put on the stock hood from the 91. fits much straighter

swapped out the bumper mounting brackets and impact absorber. also painted the hatch off the 91, as the one on the car has various rot holes.

the next task is cutting out the rad support from the 91 as it is untouched, the 90 has a slight bend and crack in it.

still a ton of stuff to do, that is what i will be doing this winter. got a nice dry garage to wrench in, so the quattro will be getting me through the white months. hopefully progress will continue, so that i can break out the da in the spring.

dude im dying to see how those bottle caps are gonna look on your car. !! can we at least get some more teaser pics?? hahah!!

gotta refinish the woodgrain on it then re-clear it.

got the quarter trim back on, tried one of the finished wheels on it to see what the colors might look like together.

sorry for the terrible pics i forgot my camera and had to use my phone.

going to swap the motors this week, and fix the power steering. then off to my shop to begin the winter teardown.

I just want to see those rims sittin on your car already! (with tires) They are so sick. I think they will compliment your amber lights very nicely.

yea buy some tires already lol

thanks guys, as soon as i get tires there will be pics. but other work is needed first unfortunatly.

rear undercarriage

front undercarriage, needs some work but i have all winter…

i have a new washer bottle which i will be installing, cleaning up the unner fenders and then putting in fender shields and the plastic engine shields also.

possibly going to be working on a hidden radiator with the cap coming through the upper rad support.

motor will be out monday, then i will sandblast the header and paint it hightemp black.

then the cleaning can begin. anyone have a pressure power steering line from the rack to the pump that is in good shape? lmk

will there be a wire tuck in the future? I only ask because i think it would compliment the hidden radiator you are thinking of doing.

yes a wire tuck and shave was in the immediate future, but my welder money is strongly in jeopardy because there is a b20b head with crower stage one cams i might be getting…

got the motor pulled today, got the power steering cooler pulled too, i will be adding a new external cooler as well when i get the power steering all fitted back in.

the motor will be taken down to the bare block, prob new rings and everything that goes with that…

the bay will be degreased tomorrow, it will be a pain in the ass but im going to try and paint the suspension too.

after the cleaning of the bay, i will be bolting the motor and tranny together with a new gripforce press plate, disk, both bearings, spring, and flywheel.
this is clearly the motor that will be going into bay, after i complete the scrub down.

just a cleaning of this extent will get the bay close to where i want it to be so i can start the tuck this winter.

Engine looks good. Looks like you got your work cut out for you with that bay, good luck!

started scrubbing the bay down today, got alot of grease off of the lower parts of the bay, also there was cv boot grease all over the lower control arms.

time to hand wipe clean all of the streaks, paint and hit all of the rubber with some dressing.

just waiting for a few more odds and ends to come in then I will be getting the refinished drivetrain into the 90.

the bushings on both shift linkages were smoked so I figure its perfect time for these.

going to be ordering the whole energy suspension kit for the da over the winter…as all the bushing are donezo
