Just your average second gen.

Hey G2iC members.

I’d like to proudly introduce myself here as a new-ish member and my 1990 Acura Integra GS. My name’s Chase, and I’m from the Seattle area of Washington. I’m 19 years old but had my fair share of Honda’s. I’ve owned 2 DA’s in my lifetime, one being a 1991 Acura Integra GS LSVTEC Turbo, and my current one-- the 90 GS. I had traded away my turbo 91 GS for my current daily driver, a 1996 Honda Civic Hatchback. My old turbo DA was giving me far too many issues for me to fix, especially still being in high school and only earning part-time hours at a local shop. Soon after I traded, I always wanted to get back behind the wheel of a second gen. Ever since owning my first second gen, it’s had me hooked. So, meanwhile I was always checking craigslist for sweet deals on an abused second gen that needs a new home, an ad for a 1990 Acura Integra GS came up. It didn’t look too bad from the pictures besides the 2000’s era tail lights and the rattle can paint job with 17’s. There was very little information about it too… It was a five speed with a clean title, and that’s what I wanted. Oh, and I forgot to mention the price- it was listed for $900. I gave the woman a call about her second gen she had up on the good ol’ CL. She didn’t reallly know anything about it as i asked her some questions over the phone, so I offered to meet up with her. She lived about 30 minutes away, which wasn’t bad at all. When I arrived, I seen it and I already knew I wanted it. She was telling me all about her situation how she couldn’t take this car to her new apartment complex where there would be no room for it, and she needed it gone. She then offered it to me for $300, keep in mind i haven’t even had a good look at the car yet, and I took her up on her offer right away. Then, i checked out the car for a minute or two, it seemed to be pretty solid and ran okay. Interior was moldy and gross, and the exterior had seen better days but who cares? A second gen that runs and drives for $300?? I think that’s a no-brainer. I took the car home, happy as ever to even wrap my head around the fact that I just bought a second gen for $300, and happy that I’m an owner of my favorite Honda chassis. I am absolutely in love with this car so far, and I know you all are waiting- you want to see pictures! So here you have it. Please bare with me everyone, this build won’t have too many expensive parts in it. I’m working full-time at a casino, and the money isn’t ideal but it’s a job- but i’ll always try and make things better and give updates.

Here’s the pictures from the CL ad.

And when I got it home, (wow, i didn’t realize it had HID’s lol…)

Interior pic, i know… gross.

I ended up selling my 17’s…

I also decided it was a good idea to gut it from the front seats back, letting you guys know now… the back interior was completely trashed.

A little engine bay picture, i bought a new distributor and plug wires for it. Also picked up a $10 intake tube at the local junkyard. You will begin to notice my favorite place to go in my freetime is the scrap yard… Also got a new fender since the old one was wrinkled up bad.

Power steering delete.

I started to get this crazy idea to paint it, so i started bodywork and paint…

I went with a white, on black trim oem look. I think it’ll suit the car nicely.

Now that the front end was done being painted, i moved to the back. Lots of sanding…

Got one side done, and slapped on some wheels i had laying around.

This is currently how it sits as of today, I’m still working on painting it when i get the freetime. I took off the god awful exhaust it had on it. It was dragging on the ground at stock height! Currently open header, (don’t worry it’s a garage queen and never leaves the house) but i have exhaust on the way, aswell as coilovers. So stay tuned for more updates i guess, give me a comment and let me know how you guys like it so far. If you have any questions feel free to ask! I appreciate your time if you have read this far, thank you.

Looks good! Hell of a deal!

Looks good

I would have kept it the horizon gray though

I wish whoever painted it rattle can grey would have just kept it stock horizon grey too. :bang:

Very nice! You can’t beat that deal, and it is clearly in good hands now. The paint improvement is really sharp, and you are going in the right direction.

I love that gray man, nice find and good work so far keep it up man glad to see your happy about the g2’s.

I love reading posts like this makes me happy to see people are still doing this so happy!

Picked up a minty hatch lid from the local parts yard today, also picked up a battery terminal ground. My old one was on its last leg and giving a bad ground.

Pictures to follow in a bit!

Some picture updates on my new junkyard hatch find.

Picked up a new battery ground connector piece, the old one was pretty beat up. Cleaned it up and here it is now.

Also my coils and exhaust has shipped! Very happy about that, i’ll be one step closer to hitting the road.

Welcome aboard and congrats on the new ride!

Congrats on the new ride! I’m excited to watch this build come together. Keep the photos coming!

Thank you guys for all the comments! I didn’t expect this many people to want to see something like this! So thank you all.

On the other hand, i found out whoever put my HID’s in made an electrical mess, wiring was spliced into multiple spots now one of my HID’s doesn’t work anymore. I plan on going to the junkyard and finding an uncut harness since i have two DA’s i normallly take parts from there. I’ll post pictures of this mess in a bit. :expressionless:

The junk yards around here pay $500 for a scrap car! Nice find and Bremerton is a nice place. A friend of mine lives there, big Navy town.

I honestly love it here, born and raised in Bremerton WA and it’s been nice. Also, very big navy town indeed.

Anyways, here’s some promised pictures of my wiring that makes me want to puke!

Whatever this one was for, it’s not even plugged in. Seems to be a reason behind that, lol.

As for my suspension setup, here’s a little sneak peak… some old KYB GR2 struts from a ek… I also picked up some ek forks from the junkyard so it will work.

Still waiting on my parts to arrive, exhaust and coils. Once they come in i’ll post alot of pictures.

What’s wrong with that wiring? Looks pretty spot-on, to me.
Good luck with your new find. Always nice to see these old G2’s brought back to respectable life.

Soo… It’s all one color now, and no i’m not completely done with the paint still have to touch up some areas… I’ve got my exhaust on and my coil sleeves came in! I’m a very happy camper.

So, my exhaust setup. I currently have the stock exhaust manifold, no cat, so its a ebay adjustable 3 piece test pipe i picked up for $30 on ebay. Then I got a no-name ebay catback for $110. So all in all, $130 exhaust, sounds great. Everything lined up and tucks under the car nicely. I have no complaints at all, we will see how long it lasts lol.

Coils i bought are just $50 ebay coil sleeves slapped on kyb gr2 struts out of an ek. Had to get ek forks for the front and grind down the rear lower control arms to get them to fit properly. (The ek forks come close to the CV axle, but no rubbing) -phew.

I’m currently in the process of blacking out the trim pieces, so it will look somewhat factory.

First off, here’s an exhaust fitment picture. (the green tipped ones were the only ones left other than the fart cans, lol.)

A little pic of the paint and how it sits.

looks awesome already! I still cant believe the deal you got. Already a great transformation and again welcome to the club

Hey guys…

Here’s a little update for you all, whether it’s for better or for worse… here we go. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve been dailying my second gen for a solid two-three weeks now and it’s really been a great car, until yesterday. The head seems to be cracked! Now i’m not sure if i pushed this little 235k mile b18 too hard (probably, lol) or it’s just reached it’s time. I can really only pull it in and out of the garage by this time, it runs pretty rough, goes through coolant like no other and overheats from time to time. All in all, this car is still worth fixing… so i’ve got a couple things up my sleeve to get this car back on the road stronger than before!

I already have a jdm b16 J1 transmission for it, i’m also buying a B20B p8r 9.6:1 comp version for this car aswell! Let me know how you feel about the B20/B16 tranny combo, but i think i’ll love it!

The car has changed a little bit since last time, so i’ll throw up some pictures of new stuff.

Accord Lip! I love this mod on second gens…

Closer pic…

I went to home depot and found a self locking hole plug for 98 cents, looks good.

I painted all my side molding trim btw… oh and new wheels. I love wheels if you can’t tell already lol. They are ESM 16x9 +15.

235k b18, you served well but the time has come.

HIC rear window visor, love it.

My b16 J1 tranny.

Thank you guys for checking out my post… more content to come definately! Just waiting on funds to buy this high comp b20.

What makes you think the head is cracked and not just a blown head gasket? For the B16 trans I would swap in a hydro gsr 5th if you do much highway driving. I’d probably toss a thinner hg in the B20 too for a little extra compression.

Well I noticed it was spraying a lot of moisture from the exhaust, it’s been blowing white smoke also and misfiring. I threw some new coolant in it and tried to bleed the system and air bubbles kept coming up, meaning the exhaust is somehow reaching the coolant and leaking into there. I’ve heard that’s a cracked head, might just be a headgasket but regardless I’m not fixing this motor yet I’ll throw a b20 in it. And thinner headgasket? Where might I find one of those?

if i were you i would just stick to the Factory thickness MLS gasket. i think its something like .030" thick… when i did the headgasket on my B18. I believe i purchased a Cometic one, the top end kit was something like 130-150$, probably similar pricing for the B20 engines. comes with all , if not most of the exposed gaskets that get unsealed when removed along the way to replacing the H/G. Don’t forget to spend the extra little to get some upgraded Head Studs.
