i didn’t grind down teh caliper any, and i have a huge tub of them sitting in the basement, i believe they are the standard 3/8’s washer. i had the car balanced about a week before i did the brake swap and it rode like glass, but after the washers it has a slight vibration around 60, not sure if its 100% related (could be rotors, or who knows) I’m not terribly worried about it but it is a little annoying. I just cant get the grinding away part right.
I used an end mill on my caliper brackets. I have access to one at work and wanted to get the surface as “flat” as possible. See pictures on page two. There is a detailed picture of the caliper bracket. If you notice, on the fourth picture down the 28T that is stamped on the caliper bracket has been machined down. These are the two parts that need machining. Not sure if that’s the question going on here, but just to clarify. Also, if you use Prelude rotors, just find some prelude caliper brackets and you don’t have to do any grinding at all. You can redrill your own 4x100 pattern if you use the prelude rotors because they center on your hub. If you use the Legend rotors, unless you have some special “rotor” hub centric rings like I made, have a machine shop drill them as the lug studs will be what keeps your rotor centric.
so what it sounds like to me is the easiest way to do this in a nutshell is to go get prelude rotors, have them redrilled, get the prelude caliper brackets, then get either nsx calipers (if you want more bling) or legend 4 door GS dual piston calipers.
dual piston rotors. this deserves tEHjUnKmAnOrZ “Wow, just wow” of the week award.
what im doing is using Legend calipers and brackets, grinding the rotor side of the carrier bracket down to allow clearance for the rotor to “sweep through”
and having 94 Prelude 11 3/8" rotors redrilled to 4x100, along with AEM pads and Technafit lines. to my knowledge its the easiest way. BTW im redrilling the rotors myself, Mark was gonna do it for me, but being the procrastinating bastard i am i waited toolong. now he’s going to Kuwait. good luck Mark and thanks for all the help.
Anyone ever use the advanceauto refurbished legend calipers? They are only like $90 for both with cores (ive got some old accord calipers that will work for cores )
Also, Be careful with those AEM brake pads, I had a front set crack on my civic and a rear set crack on my integra…the hawk ferrocarbon pads I have now are MUCH better durability and stop a TON better
when i tried to grind down the inside, it didnt even look like that was where it was rubbing. (this was weeks ago) but it looked like the inside of the corner of the caliper was where it was hitting and i couldn’t get to that part with a grinder. :bang:
armed-
l ook at the first picture on this page, and you can see the part where i grounded down on the caliper. do you have to go all the way into the little nook and cranny where the pad is? i couldn’t grind it down enough to fit when i tried it last. there should be a legend brake upgrade for dummies book, haha.
