Legend Brake Upgrade

Hey Mark, last time i talked to you was before you went to Kuwait. Hows it going? im finally getting around to finishing the DA and im going to finally be doing this. I still have the same Beck/Arnley jobs i got way back, and ill be shaving them myself. A local machineshop will be drilling the Prelude rotors i have. I want to clarify a few things with you before i go ahead and start anything…

I use SS lines for the DA correct? Id like to get Goodridge but im not sure if they have a coating. Id like to get a brake line kit with a clear coating on them, but im steering clear of Technafit cuz i heard some horror stories.

AEM/Nissin front pad number 26-120, same application as the Type R, Vigor, NSX etc? the app list says “Legend Excluding GS” but i cant find an app for the GS. Only reason im looking at AEM is theyre made with Nissin, if you can recommend a better pad feel free.

The whole DA is getting rebuilt, down to nuts and bolts in most places. What else would you recommend upgrading (MC, booster etc.) and what would i need to do it.

Also do you now recommend mounting the caliper with the bleed screw down?

What choices do i have regarding the rear brakes? Ive seen the EP3 upgrade and im a bit interested, id just like a bit bigger rotor and caliper in the back. Honestly mostly for looks. Ive seen it uses the DCcaliper i beleive, but im not sue how this translates to the DA. I can find much thats DA specific.

Im also doing a bit of a brake line tuck and was wondering how the level at which the proportioning valve is mounted would affect the brake system at all regarding bleeding etc.

I would have emailed you but i lost your address.

No issues thus far and yes they’re for a DA.

If not the only option you have as far as OEM parts is to get a 92-93 or 94+ ABS master cylinder. I’m not positive but I think the boosters are the same.

Yea , I’ve had the calipers and brackets for a year or 2 now just sitting around.
Where’d you get the Nissin pads? So the Russel lines have the clear coating? I may go with those. My cars a 92 LS, no I don’t have ABS. So idk if any 1" MC will bolt up or if I need that adapter Mark was having made awhile back.

So I can just bolt up the EP3 civic brackets and DC calipers no problem? I know the Ep3 rotors are 4x100 so they’ll bolt up. What years was the EP3 Civic, so I can get the correct applcation.

I got the Nissin pads at a local shop in Kansas City. You can use a 92-03 GSR MC but you’ll need a 10mm to 12mm adapter fitting. I have no idea where to get it at. 94+ W/ABS all had 1" MC’s. Basically any 92+ Integra w/ABS had a 1" MC. Yes, the Russells have the rubber coating. Mine do atleast and they’re Russells.

Yes. 02-04 were 4x100, 05 were 5 lug. You use the DC caliper because the EP3 caliper’s e-brake mechanism is different than ours (and DC’s for that matter).

i thank you sir, not sure if ill be able to come across the adapter, ill have to look around.

i guess il just autozone the EP3 caliper brackets and rotors, as well as the DC calipers. I wonder if i can sneak my old DA calipers into the core box.

i just read that you need to use EP3 pads on the rear since the EP3 carrier bracket is “deeper” and that the pads dont fit totally under the GSR caliper. Is this true? i think someone used another rear caliper, but i forget what it was.

Yea you use EP3 pads and just shave them down to fit properly. It may shorten the life of the pad though.

theres no larger caliper you can use?

I dont know. I just shaved the rear pads down enough to fit and went on my way. Im pretty sure it has to do with the offset of rotor or the offset of the bracket itself that puts the caliper/rotor in the wrong place. I honestly don’t know.

I Think it’s because the bracket is " deeper" if you know what I mean. What did you use to shave the pad? I don’t want to go and buy new pads and screw them up.

I think a belt sander?

yea ill have to look into it, i dont really like the idea of messing with the brake pads like that.

ok.

4sd4dr: Do you think you could take a couple of pics of your brake setup? To give a better visual. Thanx

…of what specifically?

Front…

Rear…

[QUOTE=4sd4dr;2015945]…of what specifically?

you drill the holes yourself? Notice a BIG difference in stopping power? Thanx for the pics

what brand rotors did u use?

use OEM rotors, and dont drill the holes yourself unless you have the proper equipment, such as a machine shop.

Ok so ive been wanting to do this but exactly what year is the legend that i need the calipers off of?

They say 94-95 GS sedan, but I’ve seen a completely bone stock 95 Coupe with the calipers we use… with that said I have a pair of dual piston calipers w/brackets for sale if youre interested.
