anything?
hat size wouldn’t affect the distance of the caliper–the mounting holes on the caliper bracket would.
maybe pick up a set of brackets for a legend and see if they will let the caliper move in some?
there’s gotta be a dealership around that would at least order one in and let you compare the two. maybe give one of the guys here on the board a ring that works at a dealership. or maybe give HAP a call? those guys are pretty cool.
hap? i know of no such thing-- that would be rad though, i’ll have to start searching around, good idea!
for anyone thats actually following this debocle of a brake thread (i commend you) and here is some knowledge i’ve picked up in the past week or so…
first off, i borrowed my friends 16"s slips…i love light wheels, not sure about black, i go back and forth, anyway.
next, 2nd gen nsx calipers[na2] (shown in my pictures above, with caliper bracket in front of caliper opposed to first generation [na1] calipers with caliper bracket above actual caliper behind si wheel) will not fit behind a 15" wheel.
on top of that, they do not grip the entire 11" rotor. there is about a 1/2" of rotor that the pad is not gripping, making this mod not as cool as you thought it was after upgrading to an 11" rotor from a 10" rotor…granted you have a better caliper but not using 100% of it.
The options are…well…as 2ndgen said, weld holes in, tap new holes 1/2" outward in bracket, and grind down the bracket to fit around the hat. You have to be precise in order not for the rotor to hit the inside of the caliper backing…does’nt sound fun does it.
WHO WANTS TO BE THE BRAVE SOUL to find out if you can swap the brackets from the 1st gen nsx calipers or legend calipers onto the 2nd gens…so that I can run my dang 15" wheel that I love so much?
hope this has helped somebody, let the wealth of knowledge grow! YOUR TURN…
anyone know if the stock bracket will fit the nsx caliper possibly moving it in?
>do you know the offset of those wheels. 43
>im debating doing basically the same thing you did but trying to use my 95 >gsr if it will clear after modding it.
Havent tried clearing OEM wheels, but seeing as they just clear even deep spoke 35 offset Enkei, Id say you would still need to shave the caliper even after tucking in the caliper.
>did you have fitment issues with the rotor hitting the inside of the caliper >after you re-drilled; Yes, the outer bracket hit the rotor hat. Which is why it got machined I beleive 1.2mm
>was it a test and fit job or just a one timer. it took three trips to the mill and carefull measurements every set-up.
>thanks again for the help bro. Your welcome.
dang your good at this…
dan, once i get a spare set of legend calipers up in hurr, i’ll separate the brackets and get in touch with you to shoot 'em your way just to see if they’ll fit.
i’ll need the brackets back, of course, but hey–at least we’ll know.
it’ll probably be a couple months. my supplier’s workin his buns off trying to get some.
so yeah, there’s your zoomintegra lovin for the day.
you rule.
i just wish teh fuggin caliper bit the whole rotor…contemplating finding some legend ones and just selling these–who knows
would you wanna sell some…or trade + $ or work something out? i probably could turn the nsx ones around pretty quickly, if you can get some decent conditioned legend ones, my nsx ones are new =)
I guess I am the only nut dealing with this matter right now…BUT… i will post some new pictures of the LEGEND calipers on legend rotors and will compare and contrast once i get them bled… let you duders know soon enough.
-ps anyone want some nsx calipers?
The legend calipers i have access to are usually rebuilt to as-new condition.
I may invest in a couple extra sets and toss 'em up on the classifieds here, but that probably won’t happen till July.
Ferret can you get Legend calipers now? that one place you referred me to way back when told me they only had one side. if you have or can get any, ill get those AND the rotors from you.
I’ll email you where to get them. I’d rather not share it publicly lest they run out.
armed-
i got a set of legend calipers and put them on today, bled the brakes… not too much difference, but the caliper is biting the rotor much better and can fit 15s. Do you think rebuilt loaded nsx calipers come with better pads then rebuilt loaded legend calipers? the ones that came w/ the nsx are black and legend’s were red so iknow they are a different ‘type’ just curious if maybe i bled them not as good or if the nsx had a better pad, even though it wasn’t gripping as much as the legend.
ps-- the first inch of pedal travel in my brake is really squishy, and i want to eliminate it. It did this before the swap, w/ the nsx ones, and w/ the legends…I drove my friends stock 93 civic cx and it didnt have them, so curious as to what it could be. I’m bleeding brakes (with friend method) RR, LF, LR, RF just like the manual says but there’s gotta be something i’m missing, or maybe the booster is gone ( just replaced mc ). any help would be greatly appreciative. thanks again buddy!
pictures coming soon i promise!
might be because of ABS. My car is like that too with my ITR brakes. It doesn’t feel as hard as my old LS without abs.
good call david.
that wouldn’t surprise me one bit.
:ohyeah:
so WTF can i do about that, short of getting rid of ABS? please help i want my pedal to be stiff right off my foot
get rid of abs.
