Let's talk about 11" brake rotors

My rotors are quite warped and I’ve had them turned numerous times so I’m not sure how much life they have left in them. So… I see this as a great upgrade opportunity.

There’s been a lot threads lately about replacing rotors & pads w/ OE brembo rotors, hawk pads, etc.

There’s also been some talk of the full-on oversized rotor/caliper kits like Wildwood.

BUT… I’m curious about the 11" rotors upgrades that use the OE calipers. Groupbuycenter.com has the AEM big rotor kit on special for $355 (usually ~$450+). But no one has any feedback for me on AEM brake products. here’s a link to the kit I’m referring to: http://www.aempower.com/rotor.htm It is the OE caliper big rotor brake kit. This is for the front of course. It consists of 2 11" 2-piece rotors, bracket to relocate oe caliper, pads, all hardware.

ANyone have any feedback on this kit? I’m waiting to hear back from the fastbrakes.com guy to see if he has anything comparable.

My plan is to do an 11" kit in front, brembo cross-drilled/slotted rotors in rear (the slotted/drilled ones) just so they match the fronts for appearance purposes. W/ goodridge SS lines of course.

around 300 for 11" rotors and type-r calipers. Better than aem

leif your car would look sooooooo good with some fat rotors hehe

I don’t see using an 11" rotor w/ an OE caliper would help braking at all. Simply because you still have the same surface area that the OE caliper is capable of covering. If you’re upgrading to a bigger caliper (maybe 2 or 4 piston types) with bigger brake pads, then I can see how you can gain performance. Otherwise, I think it’ll be just for show.

Good luck Leif,

Leverage. And I think ITR calipers are better than ours.

i thought that AEM front rotor kit are 12’?

increased surface area leads to faster heat dissipation rates. less heat soaked pads and rotors reduces brake fade and increases brake parts life.

I would go for the ITR/prelude/legend calipers with 11.1" rotors.
I got everything needed from a local salvage yard for $100.

Also, some other brake upgrades may cause clearence problems on some rims and require you to use spacers or incorret offfset wheels. I was able to run 15" RH CPF EVO with 45mm offset which would have been impossible with some other brake kits out there.

fyi wilwood does not make a kit that is daily driver friendly. their are no dust caps covering the calipers. so unless you like rebuilding calipers every so often, i would scratch wilwood off your list

anyone know where I can get some SS brake lines for a fair price???

Wow! Only 300 for a pair of 11" rotors & ITR CALIPERS? That sounds mighty cheap.

I’m waiting to hear from the fastbrakes guys. Everyone seems to speak highly of them and I haven’t heard much about AEM.

If I went w/ a 11" kit on the front do you guys have any reccomendations for the rear?

Thanks guys,

Leif

Shouldn’t be anymore than $100 for all 4 corners.

On a stock G2 Integra are the front and rear calipers the exact same?

If so I’m guessing my rear calipers are not the originals because they are smaller and before I painted them they had some blue paint on part of them.

If I upgraded to bigger accord or ITR calipers in the front, could I move my current front calipers to the rear?

I believe that the rear calipers are actually smaller in size because the brakes are front biased. So I don’t think your rear calipers are in the wrong place.

And can anyone answer this: How much better is the ITR calipers? Is it worth it to get that or I just save up and go for the 4pot calipers? I personally don’t think 4pot will ever be used to its full potential so why waste the money, but I have to say the blue on the SPOON calipers are so tempting… drool

well my good friend has the AEM ones but he can only use a 15" or higher wheel now…He has been happy with them otherwise…

Also don’t forget that the rear calipers have the assembly for the parking brake/ebrake as well, so they are different from the fronts in that respect as well. I’d also like to know if the ITR calipers are actually any better, seeing as how I haven’t seen any 4pot ones that have dust boots. Anyone know of any multipot calipers with dustboots?

ARCHIVETHIS

anyone care to talk more about using itr/prelude/legend calipers on our cars? Do they bolt right on? Also, what rotors do you order? obviously not itr, prelude, or legend ones because their lug patterns are different.

Colin

Have you explored fastbrakes.com? They have a little info there. I just browsed there. I think I’m just gonna call those guys on Tuesday. I’ll let you know what I find out.

Leif

ok, i’m a little confused now. Someone posted about a fastbrakes 11" type r brake kit for around $300. I can’t see that anywhere on the site.

I see the front rotors for $75, so thats $150 for the front. But you need to use newer accord calipers, which i’m guessing are expensive since they are new.

and everything else i saw was a good deal more expensive than $300.
