It seriously feels like my free time has gotten even more sparse. Sigh. I’ve haven’t tackled any of the modeling nor scanning due to house issues.
one of the little screw holes is loose inside the bumper on my car… so it only screws into one of the top and two on the bottom of the license plate.. its not really a big deal because i have the metal bracket to hold the bottom two screws but have you ever had that problem where the piece with the screw threads is loose
I’m not following your post there. Perhaps some pix would help.
when I try to screw it in, it just pushes it back. its like the little piece inside where you screw it into broke off inside
lmao i just figured it out actually… i threaded a screw into one of the holes until it bottomed out and it tightened it up so it isnt loose inside the bumper molding anymore… hard to describe
Oh shoot!
I have an aftermarket bumper and those screws never came threaded. So now I’m wondering if this part I made will even fit!
I once designed a license plate mount that went below the bumper lens. No drilling – it was a “hook” design. It worked but it wasn’t great. Perhaps I need to look into that again for states with a required front plate. I’ll look for a pic. But, I also need details on those threaded holes you (and probably others) have. Can you tell me the diameter of the screw you’re using to mount it?
just a basic 10mm head bolt. same bolts that are used to hold down the headlights and stuff. M6 1.0 pitch
Ah. So that’s the size I’ve used for the screws. So, if the anchors are removed, they’ll get screwed into the OEM threads then. I may have to make two designs now.
I sent one to @BATUO . That issue may come up. I’m waiting for results.
Will be back from Mexico next week for the install with pics.
So I installed the front bumper cover today and your right the screw that came with the cover is smaller than the one on my bumper so I had to cut off the back portion to have it sit flush with the bumper I used the two outer holes that lines up here the result. Btw for my front bumper I had to enlarge the two holes to fit the two screws I had for my bumper, aside from that great product! Love how it looks and get to represent G2IC
After Pix are here …….
I made those with M5 hex. That’s why they don’t fit in the OEM tap in the bumper.
So I’ll make two versions for each bumper:
90-91: A: No anchors, with M6 screw; B: Anchors with M5 screw.
92-93: A: No anchors, with M6 (TBD); B: Anchors with M5 screw (TBD)
Thanks a bunch @BATUO !
I need a volunteer to help me test fit the 92-93 version now. My wife’s teg is 92-93, but it’s an aftermarket bumper too.
Can you tell me the length of the screw that you used? The M5 was 20mm, do you think that’s long enough, or too long?
Nevermind. OEM is 16mm based on the parts lookup.
I can still check after work today .
the shank of the bolt or screw is the m5 part. hex is the head of the bolt which is usually 10mm.
at least that is the terminology i have learned
Yup. I gotcha. The ones I’m using are hex key so they sit more flush.
