Long* need advice on which gen B16 to buy

ok, I’ll try to make this as compacted as possible…if you want to go straight to the question, skip ahead.

  1. As many of you know my teg is on its way back to being fixed now that I have a job. Here is what happened. Ok now I’m goin to be getting myself a jdm b16a more than likely off of hmotorsonline. The sirI is 600 and the sirII is 900 (both longblocks).

  2. Visualize takumi’s high-rev racing motor. Thats where i’m heading. My plans for the motor is b16 turbo. I chose the b16 because I am planning on making a high-rev turbo motor. I will build the block to handle the rev’s with pistons, rods, new bearings, ARP, yadda yadda which i have already chosen. My rev limit that i am planning for is 9,000rpm, though i won’t beat on the motor.

  3. The turbo i’m building this for is a T3/T60-1. I’ve done alot of searching mainly on Evans-tuning and seen some impressive dynos with this turbo on a B16. Don’t tell me ur gonna lag. I know I will. If i wanna cruise the streets I’ll stay under 5k and save gas. If i wanna go fast then 5-9k is where the fun starts. I want it to be like that. i’m looking to have a turbo XS dual stage and daily drive on about 270-300 and track it 350-400.

  4. What i think most people fail to understand is that low end isn’t important or worth caring about with a B16 at all. In a go fast situation, after first gear i’m never gonna see these low rpm’s under 4.5k. people need to build their motors around the realization that you want power to come back on where your rpms fall on the upshift. If i take it up to 9k i’m gonna fall back to a lil over 5k where the power starts up all over again.

  5. Ok, question. I have a 90 GS with the stock pr4 now. I plan to convert over to either crome or neptune. there is a crome tuner locally so i’m leanin towards that. Off Hmotors which swap would be less of a waste of money. I know the sirI is OBD0 and the sirII is OBD1. But i’m gonna have to convert the car over to OBD1 anyway as far as ecu, harness, dizzy, etc. so would getting the sirII be a wasts since i have to convert other things anyway? plus paying another 300 for the extra 10 horsepower seems stupid cause i’m gonna go with GSR cams any way for boost. What are your thoughts on which generation motor to buy? As you can see i’ve been doing alot of thinking and planning into this build.

well i would say get the sir1. cuz then u could spend that 300 on the conversion. 150 for new dizzy, 110 for new conversion harness, then like 200 or more for new ecu. it would be the more logical choice

why not use turboedit for obd-0 or pm ben ogle

You dont have to go obd1. You can stay obd0 and use BRE.

Ben

how would you go about getting a tuned chip for a b16 turbo if you dont live close by???

find some one in your area who tunes. Look on pgmfi or honda tech or something, there are plenty of tuner “directory” type threads.
