Whatever Guys…

OK, Back to trannys.
Would the longer gear ratios be better for gas milage???
Racing trannys have short gear ratios, right??
I’m not talking about a GS-R’s tranny, i’m talking about REAL racing trannys, the ones with the funny noise.

In YOUR Opinion,…
Would a racing tranny be good on a turbo RS???
Why or Why Not? <---- that is the question

longer gears more mph to RPM ratio simple more RPM more fuel and air needed to keep up with the now more frequent burn. REAL RACE TRANNY…the term right there answeres itself. light to light, freeway, merging, etc are not in mind when the “race tranny” is being built. im leaning towards the LS tranny simply cause i already have it and its not broken so why fix it. just like when porsche offered its 5speed then introduced a more powerful 4speed turbo model back in the day. i guess they assummed they now had the power to pull that gearing. as far as the difference between the GSR and LS trannys doesnt seem like big enough gains to be argueing about id look for power somewhere else first. just my opinion.

judging by your response you dont exactly know what a REAL race tranny is. that “funny noise” is made because there are NO SYNCROS in that tranny. You mash the gash, slam the gear. Clutch? what clutch? you buy yourself a full dogbox and see how much you like driving your car on the street.

ive thought about having my buddy build me a full race tranny, but then again it would be pointless as a daily driver…matt is right, full race trannies dont have syncros, they are removed, and i believe every other tooth is taken out as well, but i am not sure

I have seen people use both.

Jeff, Mike still runs his JDM S1 cable tranny.
For the street and mild boost apps, I would run the LS tranny.

When I was N/A I had the b16a tranny with LS 5th gear. Performance wise it was awesome. Gasmileage wise I lived at the pumps. Now that I am turbo I sold my B16A tranny and put back in my LS. I couldn’t imagine having that tranny with my setup. With the LS tranny my first gear is a right off. As soon as it hits 4000rpm I blow away the tires (205/40/17). My race starts when I grab 2nd gear. If I had my B16 tranny it would be alot worse. I like the LS tranny for all around driving , performance and especailly highway. I am not a die hard racer that goes to the track every weekend. So this is more than enough for me. I can see how the GSR tranny would give better et’s in the 1/4 mile provided you run a sticky tire. But for day to day driving on radial tires you really can’t beat the LS tranny (I am only speaking for myself and my setup, this is not a general statement). I will never through a slick under my car and go to the track. I am only interested to see what she does in street trim with C16. I will be going to the track this weekend coming so I will post my results.

i wonder what kinda tq/hp numbers i need to pull better wid ls tranny then b16 tranny on a b16 turbo, within power raqnge of b16a turbo wid stock internals, cept thick head gasket, to reduce static compression…???
