I have been throwing around some build ideas for my integra, and the LS motor I have blew up on me, but the transmission is still in mint condition. I have a b18c1 bottom end (block / tranny) with a b16 head that I am considering building for boost. If I build it for boost would I be better off using the GSR tranny and doing the hydraulic -> cable conversion, or should I just run the LS cable tranny?
If I build the poorman ITR for all motor, would the LS tranny be ok or should I use the gsr w/ conversion or try to find a cable b16?
I guess it all depends on what you want to build it for. If you want a daily driver and drive back and forth to work, I suggest the LS to help with gas mileage. If you want a fucking rocket and race everyone from light to light then get either the B16 tranny or the GSR tranny. From what I hear both are good and the Cable/Hydro conversion works really well. I’ve got a YS1 LS tranny on a stock B18C1 and it drives just fine. The gears are long but its better on gas. It seems like forever for VTEC to ingage.
if you build it for boost you will have traction issues up the ass with the LS let alone gsr or b16!
if you go N/A poorman’s type r get a gsr or b16. b16 is shorter than gsr. whatever you want.
LS tranny for boost. ppl use gsr tranny’s for boost because they’re newer. it’s not that much shorter than an LS. Mostly just to keep you in vtec when shifting gears imo. since your LS tranny is mint, keep it for boost. get a b16 if you’re going naturally aspirated so that you can make the most power out of your setup. an LS tranny would be good on gas but it would also be the biggest shortcoming of your naturally aspirated setup.
Thanks for the advice I think I’m going to stick with the LS tranny for now and just sell the gsr tranny. That being said, any clutch recommendations? More than likely my turbo build will put me at around 300-350 whp
i have nothing but good things to say about exedy clutches. see what stage fits your horsepower application. probably an exedy stage 2 or maybe a stage 1 will be enough.
Exedy doesn’t list horsepower recommendations for each, does anyone know if a Stage 1 clutch would hold 300 whp?
