ls vtec 90da build up

My goal was 180… Anything more was just a plus in my book lol. But I was soooo close to 190 lol.

b18c blocks with ctr pistons can hit 200whp. may not have as much torque but more top end power.

True true… But the OP doesn’t have a GSR block.

ok nobody ever seems to want to get one thus the ls vtec… just save for a gsr block. 200whp with stock internals. more reliable down the road. ls vtecs are good if you have a ton of money to build it… n still no guarantees. for the price of any one mod like cams or pistons combo you can get a gsr block.

It has nothing to do with a ‘want’ to get one…

I’m just saying, why sell an LS block for a GSR block? You either get ~12whp gain, and lose ~12wtq… Or stay with the LS and get the opposite. There really isn’t a huge difference.

Its not just about numbers. you cant put a number on oem reliability.

u just convinced me to buy a gsr block i just found lol

Ey if u dont want to buy a gsr block no biggie. im not telling anybody what to do just offering my two cents. if it bothers someone nothing i can do about that…

Who’s bothered now?

I’m simply stating a fact… LSVtec motors are not unreliable. If it’s assembled right, it will handle anything you can throw at it.

That’s like saying a non-oem turbocharged motor is unreliable. There are too many variables to generalize something as ‘unreliable’.

The GSR is a great motor, hands down. No debate there.

it seemed bryan24207 was bothered by me suggesting that block. i agree that ls vtecs are just as capable as a gsr. however it seemed OP wanted to hit 200. i simply suggested a route.

not bothered, but i want a bit over 200whp and i will be dailying the shit out of it, so the reliability would be nice

like i said ls vtecs are very capable of making power. however i will stand by this. i highly doubt a ls vtec wil take the abuse a gsr will.

exactly, and i was just talking to a guy about a gsr block…i keep forgetting that just a built gsr will take more shit than a built ls vtec…

I’d debate that…

lol yea cuz im shooting for a bit over 200whp then my 75 shot on it…luckily i have all the dyno time and tools i could possibly need all for free

The only thing the GSR has over the LS is the girdle, and bigger rod bolts.

Stock for stock, of course the GSR is a stronger motor.

But if we’re talking about upgrades, an LS with ARP rod bolts will be right on par with a GSR.

whichever motor im building, it will have ARP main studs, arp rod bolts, arp head studs…pretty much if arp makes it for my block ill have it…

what about deck height that extra oil line used for ls vtec… piston to rod ratio. all this makes a big difference. ls blocks are no where near as balanced and blueprinted as a gsr…

Deck height for the LS/GSR/ITR/CTR are all the same… (1mm difference)

Yes… What about the external oil line?

The rod-stroke-ratio is negligible…
LS: 1.54
GSR: 1.58

The piston-to-deck height is .013" for the LS and .033" for the GSR… again, negligible.

Ive always been under the impression that it all makes a difference. i may be wrong. im in no way a expert.
