Ok I did an oil change on my car the other day and noticed that my valves seem a little loud. Im going to be doing a valve clearance check today but was wondering why this might happen. Im thinking that the valves may have had a slight tick before and now with the better lube…its louder?? hmm
has anyone else had any good or bad issues with this oil. I added 1 qt like it said to my other 3 qts of mobil 1 synthetic. I have had great success with my prelude so Im curious.
I’ve used it before for my lifters and it only worked like twice for me, but I think for ur scenerio for the valves it would probably work a little better. I’ve heard that the stp, cd2, and mystery oil in the red bottle also work really good
I checked the valve clearance yesterday and everything was good. I think the problem is that the oil is too thick. I should have used the lucus synthetic.
Ohh well. I can wait till the next oil change.
the sound could due to the lash adjuster … u need to check the best oil viscocity for your car …like mine… since my EK running on year 96 b18c motor… 15/50w mineral oil will do for the kind of engine age and weather in my area… maybe it will be diffrent since you might be running on cold weather condition
wow, ive been telling people that would happen if they add that.
yeah in the litle thing they have in autostores shows how it can reach uptop with little effort. but get an engine that is going to 6-7k rpm or a vtec engine that goes even higher and your asking for problems.
my autoshop teacher used to always tell us that you only have to use the oil recommened for your car. it has all the additives it need like the article said
i use 3 quarts 5w30 with 1 quart lucas EVERY oil change.
i have no problems.
the problem with the ‘bob the oil guy’ thing is that he is testing the oil in gears. last time i checked, there weren’t that many gears in my engine, so the experiment is irrelevant.
i say go with the lucas. and the loud valves is probably just your injectors being loud, which is normal for honda/acura.
um loud injectors are NOT normal on a honda/acura. DSM’s are notorious for it, but NOT integras. i used to work for acura, and the handful of times a car came in with loud injectors they were immediately changed. and if you read the article the whole purpose is to show how the lucas product works. last time i checked your engine has many parts that move and tremendous speeds. and just because you haven’t had a problem yet, doesnt mean there isn’t one inside your engine. but whatever floats your boat man. . .if it were me, why take a chance. if lucas can do that to gears, imagine what your engine is going through.
how weird…i just got my car serviced yesterday and the guy said that i have a knock in my engine (ticking) and that i should drain some a half a quart out and put in some lucas. he said it should help for about 3 months cuz he puts int in his civic.
not sure if i should. i’ve heard both negative and positive things about it.
:ethug: all injectors tick. on a honda they should NOT be loud enough so that someone can listen to a running engine and say “that is injector tick”. that’s bad. only DSMs have such loud injectors.
"our stock injectors are made by Keihin in Japan.
They are pintle nozzle type injectors. According to RC Engineering (the injector experts), when the ECU sends a signal to the injector, the electrical signal activates an electromagnetic coil in the injector which pulls a spring loaded plunger called a pintle away from it’s seat and the injector opens. The end of the plunger or pintle has a “reverse cone shape” which influences the spray pattern. Fuel then enters the past the pintle and through a hole in the injector seat. This plunger or pintle going up and down …being pulled from it’s seat and then dropping back down onto the seat…opening and then closing the injector… is what causes the clicking noise.
The injectors sit on an rubber O-ring which seals and also cushions the injector into the IM’s injector boss.
When the rubber of this O-ring loses it’s elasticity or “cushiness” to absorb the vibration noise from the pintle going up and down (injector opening and closing), you hear the clicking sound more clearly compared to before.
Also, fuel additives affect the glue that holds the injector together and the O-rings rubber. They make the O-rings more brittle and also affect how tight the injector components are held together. So a looser pintle or brittle O-ring will also add to the noise. If you are running very high fuel pressures, this will add to the problem." - from (MD) team integra
therefore clicking is normal, but it should NOT be loud. it’s a sign of something wrong as stated above.
i don’t know exactly what your point is with that whole rant. my point was that what he thinks are his valves could very well be his injectors ticking (sounds like a typewriter)
i’ve changed the o-rings, seal rings, and cushion rings in all 4 of my injectors and there was no difference in sound. my injectors are just loud. the car doesn’t have any performance issues related to fuel, so i will say that they are 12 year old injectors, theyre just loud. plenty of people on this forum have loud injectors as well. they’re mechanical, after all.
so if i have ticking from my engine that can be heard from say 10 feet away what should i do? and if i continue to drive it like this, what kind of damage could i do?
you may be right about the injectors. I was thinking that the noise may have been the spark going through the wires to the plug. Then I noticed the noise sounded closer to the intake side. But I also noticed with the normal crank, the car seems to struggle. Is this normal. I may just change my oil again and just run the normal 10w-30 synthetic.
ar u obviously didnt read :bang: . the paragraph clearly indicates that increased noise from injectors is a PROBLEM. maybe the fact that yours are 12 years old has something to do with it? bet if you got them flow matched and cleaned professionally the sound will go away for the most part. as i stated before in my years working for an acura dealership, never once did a car with noisy injectors leave that building without a new set. not one car be it an integra, nsx, tl, tsx, legend, whatever. it could be his injectors clicking, bu the fact that he can hear it from so far away is a BAD THING. that is my point.
Look - I understand what you’re trying to say. However, when injectors get louder, i don’t feel that they need to be replaced. That is my opinion. My injectors have ticked since the day I got them, and I have had no problems.
And the fact that no car went to the DEALER with loud injectors and left without new ones means nothing to me. The dealer rips you off any chance they get. “Yep, you’ve got some ticking - better replace that engine of yours…”
