maaco paint good or bad

their runnin a special on their presidential level paint job its like 250, anyone have anything to say about the work they do ???

only get a maaco paint job if u’re painting a car that u want to sell VERY VERY VERY SOON! but they usually don’t last longer than 6 months, and after that it’ll prolly be just as bad or worst than b4 u painted it.

some do all the prep work and then primer it themselves, then send it to maaco for a decent match to the original color. that way they don’t have to do the jams n stuff. that can be an option, cuz my buddies do good prepping n stuff but paint is expensive, and u gotta do it just right or it’ll look like crap, even with paint like ppg.

its going to be prepped will it last longer if i do a good job with the prep work. any other imput would be cool. 60 ppl looked at this with nothing to say, come on people.

Why not just look on Google for people who have Maaco paint jobs?

You will get a lot more range of results/opinions/reviews than just sticking with one site.

they use single stage paint. there are some good quality single stages out there, but not the ones that they use. if u think about it… a good paint job using ppg paint (oem) on our cars, would cost over $1k EASILY. the paint alone is more expensive than maaco’s presidential sale, and that includes maaco’s labor.

u pay for what u get. IMHO. if u do a great prep job or even a good prep job, u could rattle can it a WHOLE LOT better than they could. just depends on how much experience u have. even primered black looks better than flakey maaco paint :stuck_out_tongue:

In 03 i got a paint job from maaco on my turbo neon. It was garage kept until i sold it in 05 and the paint was pristine. The only places it was flaking was the hood (engine fire) and the back bumper (lightly rear ended). The guy who owns it now leaves it outside:( and its still holding up (not fresh looking) even in shitty CO weather. This was the base model paint job with no prep. IMO its a good temp paint job with potential to last a few years if well maintained. I’ve done all the prep on my DA and in spring i will be getting the maaco paint job till i can afford a better one.

Right before i sold it:

… I know:gotrice:

its good for $250 if that’s what you want to hear…

^ yea what he said.

my car is on the left, maaco paint job was done sept of 07" by the previous owner before I bought the car. At this point paint is chipping off the front bumper and hood day by day. Is a decent paint job if your not all about looks on your car, but i’m getting it repainted this year. either flamengo black pearl or nighthawk black pearl by a professional shop.

no good, got my 300zx painted there and nothing but problems, it would flake almost immediately, and when I took it in to get fixed under warranty, you could see where they masked it off for the repair because the masking tape ripped off strips of paint. Got it painted there under warranty four times before I finally just said F$%@ it all and sold the car, it was a pain in the ass anyway.

only recommendation i would give, is if you have the time & ability to. pick up a book on automotive paint & prep. read alot in the prep areas, and do all you can, sanding down, removing trim, have lights held on by 1 nut or something so you can remove when you drop the car off, & make sure areas are all clean & have a good place for paint to attach onto.

best advice… because prepwork is 70% of the outcome.

Got my 90’ Ls painted 210 Toyota Metallic Black in December of 08’ Still looks good to this day. It is garage kept they just put more work into the paint job if you spend 500 +

I don’t know about that $500 magical cutoff between crap and beautiful, I paid for the top of the line package, almost $800 bucks with the good paint, the extra prep and all, and lo and behold, my paint flaked off if you looked at it funny, so I think it’s hit or miss with them, at best.

This is true.

I don’t have any complaints with mine. I got whatever the most expensive package was (base/clear) with OE PPG paint. I did the bodywork myself and from what I’ve seen/heard it would probably be best to do it yourself as well, otherwise you’re rolling the dice with having them do it.

I would suggest removing anything you can off the car. I removed headlights, taillights, door panels, roof rails, window trim, etc. I had them paint the fenders, hood, bumpers, mirrors, spoiler, filler panel and hatch off the car to be sure everything was coated nicely. I would advise you to do the sanding and the masking of the areas you don’t want painted yourself. Have the door handles and mouldings painted off the car too, if you want them painted at all. Remove them regardless. I think it came out great for the money.

I sent mine in yesterday. They wouldnt give me the presidential special cause it expired but whatever I need this paintjob. Ill post pics up

they lied, like bush did

I actually worked for a local macco for a while :vomit: as a estimator. What the general public doesn’t understand is paint and labor cost money, We did have high end projects costing upwards of 5,000 dollars and they looked great. When I sold someone on the presidents special the prep guys would sand, bondo( over rust) sand, tape and off it would go into the booth. I never witnessed more than 6 hours of prep on any of the lower level paint jobs. Sad but true. I can only speak on my local macco becuase they are mostly franchised to independent owners.

Best words of advice you get what you pay for :werd:

I spent 300bucks on my 86 CRX maaco paint job and it came out great and lasted for over 3 years and 200,000km…I did all the prep work myself and took off all I didnt want oversprayed on…best 300bucks I ever spent

dude i really dont like their cheapest paint but if you get the paint job thats like $500 it tends to turn out really good. here’s mine.
One thing i have noticed is that the paint is SUPER thin and not very tough. But if you picky about it and protect it should last a while. keep it away from stupid girls that know nothign about cars though! Some dumb chicks at my school decided it would be funny to write in the dust on my car one day…i f****in raged and left the car were it was to go to a buddies house and when i was gone they decided it would be an even better idea to wipe the writing off with a hoodie and no water. now when its cold and my car gets frost on it you can see were they wiped it off cause there are perfect frost lines.
Moral of the story, gaurd it well!!!

the acrylic enamel paint they used on my car was tough as nails…no stone chips, I bumped into a minivan and my paint was still good…the car went through hell and back and the paint always looked nice…and in the sun the black looked bronze, very nice job they did

like said before, some places are better than others
