ok so I know some guys on here like me are looking how to make black head lights for your jdm lights.
Well this is what you been waiting for. =]
Be adviced that this is done at your own risk and precaution should be taken into account. severe damage can occur and/or even some areas …this may be illegal.
anywho…lets begin.
Materials need:
- heatgun or a blow dryer
- 2 flat head screw drivers
- black gloss high heat paint (autozone- $4.99 a can, 1 is all you really need)
- Sharpie marker
- Masking tape
- Razor blade
- Sand Paper
- Gloves for pretection
- Patients
Most of this stuff if you dont have can be found at your local auto parts store
step 1:
Now assuming you removed your headlights previously from the car, Begin by removing the clips around the light. Then remove any excess glue with the razor to aid in the prying apart of the lense from the housing.
step 2:
Use the heat gun to heat the glue around the housing and it you have a buddy with you have him begin to separate the housing, using the screw drivers ,from the lense gently. If your doing this by yourself then be extra careful! This is prolly the most difficult part of the process do to the chance of melting the housing or lense. take your time!!!
step 3:
Once the housing is seperated from the lense, Take some windex and a towel and wipe all dirt and debret from inside making it a clean surface. Next your going to mask off the main areas where the light would reflect, using the sharpie marker, make a mark to the areas that will be painted so that it can give you a referance where and how it will look.
step 4:
Now after masking the areas that to remain chrome, now begins the paint process. Using the typical motion of left to right sprey action, apply a minmum of 2 coats. (you dont have to but prefered) the paint drys quite fast.
step 5:
After the paint has dried, remove the masking tape SLOWLY or you might take off some chrome with it. ( its only chrome paint) Then double check the housing for any spots you may have missed and if need be redo the step4.
When done, use the razor and sand paper to take the glue off the lense rim so it will sit flush when re-installing.
Step 6:
Now the final step is re-attaching the housing to the lense. Take the heat gun again and heat the glue, (you can add silicon to reduce condensation) the little by little work your way around the housing and press the lense into the housing. As you do this begin by puttin the little clips back on to keep the lense on the housing. Now re-install your lights and turn them on to make sure you have painted the ares you wanted to and it looks good to your liking.

p.s. please dont ask me to do them for you. this is for those who want to add some style to their car and are on a budget.
