many turbo/engine questions?? can you help me??

ok i am just finally getting into motors (NO MORE SHOW) on integra’s…

I have a 1990 integra with no motor in it… i am looking to build a motor the right without blowing it… first off i have someone that can bore out the block and clean it and what not and i have someone that can build motors but neither one of these people know anything about what to get and sizes of stuff…

i was going to use a LS motor with about 160k on it and rebuild it but i keep hearing from people that i should use a vtec and some people say use non vtec… i am getting all confused… i need HELP!!!

so basicly i need to know what to get and in what order to get it… i want the car to be running in the next few months… but doesn’t have to have the turbo on… but i want to get everything… i want to get all the internals done first…

hood, fenders, front bumper, and headlights don’t line up on that car. might wanna fix that before you try and sell it.

as for what engine “stuff” to do, it’s up to you. search, read, learn, make up your own opinion. :up:

thanks man… you helped out a lot… thanks for the reply… if you know anyrhing out motors… that might help… just for you information the car is custom… not everything lines up all the time… i am not sure if you have ever built a car but things aren’t always perfect…

Not to bust your balls, but if the guy that is going to build your engine doesn’t know anything about the products that are available, then maybe you should find someone else. The reason I say this is because I had a b18a built and the guy that did it sounded a lot like your builder. The motor ended up going after 5000 miles because one of the rod bolts wasn’t torqued properly. Do some research on reliable builders, you will probably have better luck. Good luck.

i’m assuming that “anyrhing out motors” means “anything about engines”. and yes, i know a thing or two. 12 different engine builds from complete scratch under my belt (not all hondas either), but then i’m sure that doesn’t mean anything. :roll:

i’ve “built” plenty of cars. i’m completely restoring my g2 right now. and you’re right, things aren’t always perfect–if you half-ass it and don’t take your time to do things right. i’m doing things right and haven’t had any problems yet (nor will i have any problems for the remainder)–it’s all about taking one’s time and doing things right. but hey, i’m sure some stupid 16-year-old will spend way too much of mom and dad’s money on that car and total it in a month or so, so it’s no big deal. :up:

as for me not helping, you obviously haven’t done any REAL research into the different options available or you’d know that my comment about searching, reading, learning, and making up your mind after learning, was right on the money.

all i am looking for is some damn information…i had one guy call me last night with a lot of imformation… what a nice guy who ever that was… i wish i hadn’t deleted it… OPPS!!! really is comes down to time… i need to search and find parts and then get it all running so the car is movable… i need to know stuff like what kind of products are good, compression, injectors… all the insider info on turbos… i want to build this motor w/turbo for no more than 5 grand… give or take!!! i was thinking about just getting a cheap setup on ebay for like 1100 bucks and maybe get a new turbo and blowoff valve… if anyone knows about turbos look at this link and tell me whats good and whats not… if its not worth it i won’t get it buts it seems like it would be a great start…

Turbo set up under 5k,it can be done,but you get out of it what you paid for,Im in the process of building a turbo B18a for my 90’ i have 2 3’’ binders full of info and I still need to learn some,I can say and maybe some people might dissagree,but the key would be tunning…you could slap a turbo kit on your Ls and be ok for about 8-10psi on a good tune. make sure when you are having your motor built make sure its by someone who knows what there doing. The main things Ive read about the ls is rod bolts are weak,I would suggest upgrading to ARP rod bolts and ARP Head studs,Read the g2ic turbo guide it will help you alot.Possinly answer alot of your questions. lol don’t hate on us young’ns…i wish i could spend my mom’s money on my car…nope gotta save up on my own…and i’ll admit that yes i am young and dumb and still quite a newb but i think i kno more than mr acuraocd…and to acuraocd…find out what you wanna do to your car and read about it…shit gets confusing and that’s when you ask questions…something so broad as “what should i do to my motor?” is gonna get you flamed like crazy…so read about what you wanna do…look at pros and cons…and when you somewhat understand what you’re thinking of doing…ask a sensible question…it’s what i do and i’ve got plenty to learn

hounestly though… i build cars not motors… i run my own autobody shop and don’t have all the time in the world to dick around… i really don’t think that its hard for someone to say… "yea now hey you goto to get such and such pistons… which will make your cars compression 9.1.2 or whatever… or yea bore this out a certain amout… oh yea don’t forget to get a fuel rail with gsr cams and cam gears… then you want to get a skink 2 manifold 440cc injectors… but hey you few that did give me info… its helping a little bit… i just want to find a good setup basicly… like i said i can spend more than 5 but would like to keep it around there… no including installs…
