Mini's 91 RS Build

Are you Still running crower cams? Just a word of warning, we would get alot of people with engine builds coming into the Shop because of snapped crower cams, and they need to heads rebuilt.

Seen a couple happen personally on friends cars, I don’t know why they snap but for some reason tends to happen.

Supertech Vavles/Springs/Retainers, great little future upgrade, used them on alot of motor builds for customer/company sponsered cars.

and thumbs up on the hawk HP+ pads. Ran those for a very long while loved the stopping power, and dusting wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Always great to see girls working on cars esp in detail beyond looks/form, i’ve started to see so many at drag events/roadrace its great.

I remember the Crower cams breaking, but I thought that was mainly the VTEC cams doing that?

I heard it was just the VTEC cams that were snapping

I’ve seen the non vtec ones break aside from the VTEC ones, i’ve held at least 2 broken sets in my hands before that were non vtec, so yes even non vtec…

what about the t2 racing cams (the ones like …say 413s?)

Is it only the Crower, or do the Brian Crower cams break also?

I have heard nothing good about crower cams. From the people snapping them even using recommended valve train, to the cams not making the power that stock cams made (rememebr the S2k thread, tried everything finally swapped in stock cams gained 30whp over bc2’s?). I heard quality control is an issue there, along with thourough engineering and research and devolopment. The BC2 for the s2k makes people think crower didn’t even test them, just plugged #'s into a computer then cnc made them and sold em untried undynoed.

I still am. Thats interesting. I’ve never heard anything bad about these cams. I’ve used these cams for years. I used it off my other Integra and this one and I’ve never had a problem with them. Maybe I got lucky? Or maybe I still gotta watch out for them. HUm…

I do have some spring and retainers. I just haven’t had the time to switch them over from my old motor yet. But I don’t think I need them Until my revs actualyl go to 9K+. Since its at 8K. I should still be fine with the stocks.

thank you! I love them. I thought they would make a little more noise but they actually don’t make as much noise as I expect so thats great and I barely get any brake dust which is even better.

Any one else running crower cams here? Any problems…? I’ve used them for I think about 3 years in total and never had an issue.

Brian Crower and Crower are two completely different companies… Brian Crower left Crower to start his own company

Im just talking about Crower Cams.

Even if you aren’t revving any higher than 8, my friend said it best, Imagine a misshift? Added protection from the upgraded valve train would be great if that ever happened, which im SURE it won’t but peace of mind.

Yeah, just keep a eye out on them, maybe check them every once and a while to see if any stress cracks or hairline fractures happen. Just a safety warning, don’t want to see all that hard work go to waste because of a bad cam. Actually I had a friend who ran crower, and the cam didn’t break, but it broke one of the cam caps which was odd.

So far sounds like a great build. Are you planning on running Honda challenge class 4? From what i Remember there are 3 da’s running that class, one being a member on here Edik Stepanyan, believe he was champion for 2004 for something i forget what.

im sure if you havent had any problems by now, chances are you wont. But as solid stated, it wouldnt hurt to inspect them every once in a while.

Good looking out  Thanks. I’ll be sure to keep an eye on it. but uhm I’m debating between the honda challenge and performance touring. Or maybe both in a little whiles down. But last year I went to nationals at miller motorsports and I talked to a honda challenge guy and he said their lead guy rignt now is a Da with a B20 swap :D. Unfortunetly he wasn’t able to make it to nationals last year so I didn’t get to meet him. I’m not sure if he was talking about Edik though. And it kinda sucked that I didn’t get to see any Da’s run last year all the honda challenge guys were pretty much civics, rsx, and dc’s etc.

Good point good point

I Don’t believe Edik has a swap, not sure if that class allowed it. Probably someone else? Unless im rusty on the rules and they’ve changed since I’ve seen them last.

It’s rare you’ll see a DA in any kind of race, chassis wise…its not the greatest…or even good for that matter. But if your pretty dedicated you can change that, a member here also a good friend of mines Tnd2Gen(Pat) has one of the most amazing DA’s i’ve seen and rode in on a race track, which he also Daily drove, also helps that to me he’s a amazing driver. Heres a couple of Vids of him racing, might give you a push to do something great with the DA

Yea the rules might have changed. Since a lot of the honda challenge guys are running swapped motors now.

yea that just makes me want to do even more you know what I mean. But we’ll have to see how this works out for me. I’ll be right on the update right after my first day out there. I still need a lot more work so the cars not going to handle as well but gotta work with it right?

thanks for the vids. I think I’ve seen one of them before. I plan on getting a cam set in my car also. So I can get constructive criticisim on it also.

You’re planning on running in HC? Aweomse GL I need to come down and help wrech on the car!

now its time to get jdm 1pc headlights

im wondering if i should get the asr subframe brace and progress rear sway to replace my st rear sway bar but i only dd my DA right now so i think i’ll wait till i get a new motor first…bad compression

Sorry guys havent been on for while! Been keeping real busy but thought I’d stop by for a little update kinda.

Well deciding between HC and PT. But I gotta get my race license first. thats this year. Well hoping that’ll be the lenght itll take me. Cross fingers! If not then this and next year. Yea I know You live so far away from everyone. Whats the deal here.

lol I know know. my headlights are -puke- but I gotta use that money on other parts first. haha yea maybe you should wait since its your dd. motor more important if its not working right. haha.

UPDATE:

So this is the only update I have right now. I am looking for a harness bar which I think a lot of people on here already know how hard it is to find one. I have yet to find one for the car and trying to find an alternative way to figure this out. I’m not going to ask any questions on here yet unless someone would like to offer some info. Because I haven’t had any time to go look up any of this info yet but once I do I’ll post it on here. Well I guess that’s if I do find something. I’m trying to see if theres an alternative harness bar that I can use and do a little custom work or some change in fitment to make iit work. Like from a civic etc. I’m sure with any custom work you can make almost any harness bar work but I’m trying to find the least altering as possible. I talked to Binh from Mosaic Motorsports about this and being as NICE as he is right Binh?! He’s going to get back to me and hopefully with something. We shall see. Got to go make din din and study for my exam! Chao!

my harnesses are mounted to my rear strut bar, if you have back seats that would be a little hard to do, but backseats are overrated.

a friend mounted his on his strut tower bar and they didnt fail even after 6 rolls and a flip. couldnt tell what make or model the car was but he walked away with only a fractured collar bone and a bruised wallet.

e: having the c pillar bar would be a good option too, altho less sturdy having only one bolt securing it at either end, as opposed to a whole shock tower mount.
