Motor Build specs

FINALLY got my block and internals back from King Motorsports after they did all the machine work and blueprinted it. I am doing all of the assembly myself. Coupla questions tho… (keeping in mind this is going to be a ~400 whp turbo lsvtec)

  1. Recommended piston ring end gaps?

  2. Torque specs on the eagle rods?

  3. What should I use to get all the corrosion off the outside of my block to make it look pretty again?

  4. King gave me a spec sheet that states what color bearings to use to get the clearences on their sheet. I have a manual for cross referencing color and part number, but I am a little confused about which thrust washers to order. I’m getting all of the bearings from acuraparts247.com. I could use help ordering the correct bearings. I thought there was like a PR3 003 and a PR3 004. I’m guessing I need one of each, but I’d rather not find out the hard way. This is for a 90-91 b18a block.

  5. I’m going to degree my cams. B17a cams. Does anyone know a good amount of overlap to start to use as a base setting?

Thats it for now. Thanks.

  1. Those specs should have been included with the box the pistons came in

  2. again that should of been included, but you should buy a rod stretch gauge and use that instead of a torque wrench, it will give you a much closer idea to how much your really putting on those things.

  3. not sure, but you should have sprayed it with rust preventative as soon as you got it back from the machine shop. a good product for that is cosmoline.

  4. you should be able to reuse your old thrust washers, those do not wear out often, if you feel uncomfortable check the helms manual it will tell you how to inspect them for wear, and how to measure if there still in tolerance.

  5. as far as the cams go, leave them at 0 until you get to the dyno, let them tune in your cams while they tune your motor.

check here if you need some help.

Assembly wont be a problem, this isnt the first motor I’ve built.

The pistons did come with a guide for gapping the rings, but it says that it is “to be used as a guide only” so I figured maybe someone knew off hand a better end gap to run on a moderately boosted b-series.

I did load down the cylinders and crank journals with WD-40 when I got them back from the shop. Just looking for a way to clean the outside of the block. I’m going to try a pressure washer today. I’ll check out my old thrust washers…i wanted to use all new stuff, but I did read somewhere else also that the thrust washers hardly wear at all.

The reason I want to degree my cams is because my head “may have been milled” and I know you are supposed to adjust the cams to compensate for that. I figured it would be a lot easier since the motor is out of the car.
