mrpenny's Free 92' DB2 build thread (yes I said FREE) #218

Howdy y’all. Never had a build thread and I’ve put in a little work on my car lately, so I figured I’d share it with y’all. And hopefully this thread helps focus my thoughts/goals a bit.

So this is my 6th DA/DB, I still currently own two others (one will be donating some parts to this build/getting sold, and the other will get it’s own thread when it’s time comes  ), but the first car I’ve attempted painting. I’ll definitely be doing plenty of reading up, and no corners will be cut! The main goal for this build is to have something reliable, something that will last a long time with minimal maintenance, and last but not least something that is just stupid fast! That last one is important since I’ve never had anything more than a B20z to call quick, lol. Not looking to hit a 10sec quarter, but having something that’s competitive at both Bandimere (drag) and High Plains (road course) will be a requisite.

On to the car. So I do a lot of Craigslist browsing and like to check out other cities nearby incase something good pops up. Not really looking for a car, but always surfing the
Cars/Trucks section, I came across this piece in the Ft. Collins CL. It was listed as a VTEC model 92 Integra for $350. Thinking it was somehow a typo, I figured I wouldn’t hurt to call and see if it was. After a brief talk with the owner, I make an appointment to go check it out the next day. Go out to look at the car, and the poor thing was left in a field to rot. Had a decent look at it and wasn’t real impressed right off the bat, but could tell there had been a decent amount of monies put in to it. Story on it was that he had a tire shop put some wheels on, they over torqued the studs, two of them broke off while he was driving and the front driver’s wheel fell off so it had been sitting in the
field for almost 6months. It also a body kit installed previously, so the rocker panels are in pretty rough shape. Told dude I’d call him back the next day after I slept on it. On
the way home was thinking about it, and came to the conclusion that this was definitely a good buy. Called and offered him $325, said I could pick it up the next morning. He bit, and I went up the next morning with driver’s knuckle, spare tire (Thanks a bunch for those Robbie!), and some tow straps. Swapped the knuckle on and towed it down to my buddy’s house in NGC. Thanks for the help with that Craig, ha!
How I found it (the guy wanted to keep the front bumper, hahaha). In a field, on some farm/business almost a mile in from the road

Mid-knuckle swap:

Me swapping crap out:

After we got it to my friend’s house I started tearing into it, and really found out how much I really came up on this. :). The nasty rat crap infested interior was immediately
ripped out, and right off the bat the unneeded parts were pulled and sold:
Ebay headlights: +$60
SAFC: +$100
MSD Digital: +$125
Blues with Skunk coilovers: +$200
Which leaves me with a profit of almost $200, PLUS an entire DB2 to mess around with! It also came with an OG Greddy front strut bar that I’ll most likely keep. Needless to say I was definitely stoked I had picked it up!
Here’s how it looked before I started tearing into it:

Everything that came off:

Minus the ITR head:

Before we pushed it into the garage (With my buddy’s 99 EX, and 89 Hatch in the background):

Well, all of that took place between May and June, and unfortunately it sat untill this year. I decided to downsize my DA collection, and get rid of the daily to put that monies
into some paint supplies, so that’s when the motivation began. A couple weeks ago I went over to where the car is, got the rest of the suspension off and cut down the stupid 5" muffler. Looks like I’ll have plenty of 3" to do my exhaust! Next on the list will be pulling the gas tank, fuel lines (to replace the rockers), all the brake lines (including the ones that go to the rear), engine/transmission, rest of the interior, trim/moldings, glass, start cleaning the underside so it can get recoated.
I had to rob the front brakes for my daily :D, and also tried to get it started:
Had 2x4s as rear shocks in this picture, ha

Check out the gigantic super cool muffler, lulz:

Finally got it all the way in the air:

Hey look two camber kits! Lol:

LCA bolt stuck in the trailing arm :(:

Whoever thought that this was a legitimate mount needs to be shot:

At least the tubing is salvageable (straights anyways):

Parts ready to go for the car:
Koni/GC 425f/400r w/tophats that I’ve had on a couple cars
DC rear trailing arms with new wheel bearings and Noltec polyester bushings
stock front and rear LCAs with OEM bushings that are a couple years old
Earl’s SS lines
Legend single piston calipers (I replaced the seals a couple years ago), 11" Prelude VTEC rotors, rear RSX calipers w/EP3 rotors. Need to get some new pads
ST 19mm rear sway bar
DA Bennen rear tie bar
Ingalls rear camber kit

One-pieces (Bought these for $100 shipped on ebay a couple years back, hahaha)

P61 ECU w/Neptune and boost control components

MAC boost control solenoid (Same one Hatterdata and AEM markup)
Tial 50mm BOV (oil drain in the pic too)

Holset HY35

Waiting for the penetrating oil to do it’s job:

Got it apart. Need to get the stuck bolt out of the turbine housing, weld the wastegate shut, and it’s off to ceramic coating!

3bar MAP sensor, just needs to be soldered in

Walbro 255hp

Raxles

Exhaust head flange, turbo flange, pile of schedule 10 1.5" pipe for the turbo manifold, AL tube for intercooler on the right, mild steel on the left is for BLKACK’s exhaust so is half of everything else pictured:

The start to some collectors:

Things I’ll be looking to purchase here in the near future:
Both rear quarter panels
Both rocker panels
Thin side moldings (sold my set to BLKACK!)
Front/rear bumpers (unless I put my OEM kit on…)
Paint/needed supplies, probably also a set of guns to spray too
A nice Honda order with lots of random stuffz
Front wheel bearings/lower ball joints
205/50/15 RE-11s

The thread will get updated as I go, thanks for looking

nice come up! lots of work tho.

My friend…very happy you made a build thread! You always had waaaay more going on than me, doing bigger and better things yet no thread lol.

Anyways badass score on that GSR! And…I always say this and darnit I really mean to come up sometime, I do want to help out on the project. You’ve given so much to mine and I would like to return some of the favor! Yet, are you sure you want my dumbass working on the car? lolololol at least I am good for cleaning.

Thanks for sharing man. And I am sure others will echo me when I say its about time! Calling you now xD

Hah… Nice come-up for sure man. You didn’t mention, but I hope you plan to replace the Altezzas with some OEMs :stuck_out_tongue:

What are you planning for the motor? Oem + boost? Or are you building the block?

Good stuff though man, I will for sure be following this thread to see where you take it.

Oh hell no ALtezza kroo fo lyfe!

Haha I think he has it taken care of. If not, I have multiple sets of 90-91 and 92-93 he is more than welcome to have whatever he needs. I also may want those altezzas. Just to have them, frnech them into the garage or something lol.

So i am insanely jealous. Great find! And thank you for breathing some life back in her.

so what was the actual motor in the car. was it a lsv with itr head. thats how i understood it.

nice build man, wish i could find a DB sitting in a field down here… ^^^ i’m thinking the itr head is for the build, but i’m sure it was the stock b17 in there

Thanks man, definitely a long road ahead, but I’m pretty determined!

Haha, yea I’ve got a set of polished 92-93s and 90-91s I’ll probably break open and mess with. As far as the motor, still unsure. This one has 217,000miles on it :(, and I still haven’t done a compression/leakdown yet, so I’m counting on it running for a bit after paint. I’ve got a spare b17 block though, that I’ve been tossing around the idea of dropping P30s in for a little compression bump, so that’s most likely the route I’m going to go. We shall see, lol

 Thank you sir

The car is a complete DB2, so B17. The ITR head I had sitting in that picture was a head that I was selling. Got it in a separate deal, and sold once I bought this car

Haha, yea you don’t even know how happy I was to find it like this! Everybody kept telling me it was a shitty deal, but I definitely knew better
