my $200 91 RS.. low budget project

hey guys, i’ve had an EF for the past 3 years but i’ve always wanted a DA so i finally got the chance to pick one up for $200 running, brakes were seized and the power steering leaks buckets…

first, my EF in it’s prime, may she rest in peace…

and the day i picked up the DA, it was sitting on the guys driveway for 3 years…

all my carpets were wet, found out my trunk had it’s own ocean… after doing some searching here on g2ic i figured out how to drain it out…

after draining the water…

after cleaning all the rusted out crap that was left in there (i wish i had a picture of what was left of the stock jack) the bolt that holds the spare seems to be seized/rusted out, anyone know of any possible way i can get this tire out?

i found two things while cleaning the trunk… anyone know what these are?

i know my trunk release doesn’t work so i’m assuming this is… the trunk cable?

the previous owner also had the antenna shaved so… is this some sort of reminiscent of the antenna?

read that the taillights were the cause of the leak so i picked these up…

92-93 tail lights…

92 tails installed

then i picked up these low budget coilovers

being bored i decided to restore some of the plastic lenses…

the previous owner hit the front driver side so the whole headlight/fogs/corners were brand new, but the driver side fog was lacking…

before

after sanding & plastX polish

bumper lens before

after sanding & plastX (damn this shit is awesome)

after the springs were installed, i threw on the BBS wheels from my EF and some painted amber corners… also installed some acura legend condoms on the fogs…

rewired the fogs to have its own power source (thanks again g2ic)

then my axleback completely rusted off from the flange, so being low budget (aka broke as hell) i figured, if people can install DA axlebacks on EFs, then i can probably stick my stock EF exhaust on my DA…

booya…

i then installed a momo wheel i had on my EF… my EF lives on through my DA (note the EF shift knob)

before (my brother’s db1 in the background)

after

and the most recent pic of the car

next up, short shifter from my EF… once i can figure out how to get all the rusted bolts off from the shift linkage…

Awesome, keep it up, saving another DA

hell yes man…good stuff for being on a budget

I <3 your rims

what cluster is that?

:werd:

Damn that interior looks clean!

You’re Aubreys brother… I thought the driveway looked familiar. Good luck on the DA, She needs alot of work (rust wise)

wat did you use to paint your corner lights? and where did you get the acura legend fog lights? junkyard? acura dealership?

btw nice work so far.

nice work so far

$200? That’s a steal!

Move the license plate up some more cuz it looks kinda funky sitting buck toothed like that… other than that… looks like your heading in the right direction… keep up the good work

thanks man… got both the corner lights and yellow fogs from the junkyard, i had the yellow condoms for awhile as i was planning on using them on my EF…

thanks! and yeah… i’m planning on getting a plate relocator as the stock holes on the bumper are all messed up…

anyway, got a little more work done… shampooed the bay:

before (when i got the car)

after, still need to paint the VC

also removed the air resonator on the intake, WOW what a difference…

so what happened to the ef?

very nice restoration…
i wish i could say the same for my car

i want:rockon:

damn, i got water in plug 3 after i washed the bay and didn’t even notice until it started sputtering at full throttle today…

i also noticed my rear wheels got a tons of brake dust one day after i detailed them, but the fronts remain clean… are my pads bad?

it had over 310k km on the original motor & trans, clutch bearing went on the tranny and the car started engaging by itself with the clutch all the way down… very scary when you’re at a red light! was going to cost too much to fix… and the body was rotten with tons of rust… to think of it, i could’ve swapped the b18 and tranny from this DA into the EF but the body was done on it…

[QUOTE=moe273;2010778]very nice restoration…

thanks… i’m literally broke as hell because of it… i could have a PS3, a sweet flat screen TV… but i’d rather fix this 20 year old car

what’s the difference between the usdm cluster besides kph?

BTW does anyone know what those two things in my trunk are? and my power steering leaks huge so i just let it drain dry and drive without PS, could this damage the pump driving with no fluid?

Not bad at ALL for 200 bucks!! It’s coming along nicely! As far as the p/s, I’ve been driving mine without it for 2 years now, as long as you’re used to the feel it’s fine really. My rack leaks, so I just leave it as it is.

welcome to the g2 world brotha
