my $200 91 RS.. low budget project

more pics/updates?

x2

lol i could have alot of things but id much rather invest my money into my DA, I love my G2

your car is lookin clean keep up the killer work

totally forgot about this thread… i’ve been pretty broke so there hasn’t been much…

deleted rear wing, plugged the holes (no pics of plugs but i used plastic interior clips and RTV gasket sealer)

got a stock exhaust (no pics) from a 91 RS but it turns out automatics had different hanger positions? had to get them re-welded… so much work for a stock exhaust… plans are to paint it flat black and add stock tips…

got a low seated weighted shift knob to atleast simulate the height of a short shifter until i get around to installing one…

then i grabbed rear gs seats from the scrapyard

still need to find front seats…

stripped and painted the VC + added intake from a d-series

threw on a free white hood to replace the beat up original hood, did the spacer ‘mod’ just for the hell of it…

also slapped on a thule roof rack, and this is how she looks as of recent

still need to fix the power steering… both my draft shaft boots are ripped and now my axles are clicking. and my rear driver brake pad sticks and turns my wheel black within a day… for some reason once every two weeks my brake pedal will lose pressure and the pedal will drop to the floor (brake master cylinder?)

will be picking up a used set of these pretty soon in 15" just without the deep lip and off a sentra and i don’t know if they’re actually sport max wheels, but they look pretty similar…

lookin good! keep it up

looks great

great work bro. what coilovers did you get?

What grit did you sand your headlights with?

i love this build…i wanna see more pictures…what’s new?

car looks amazing so far. gives me hope for my own! keep up the good work

hey how did those cheapo coils ride??

thanks man, they’re generic ebay sleve coilovers

i can’t remember… it was really fine, probably 1500-2000 grit

thanks man! picked these up finally

thanks dude… there’s still plenty of work to be done… wish i had money!

rode like shit (stiff, really bouncy and it wasn’t even slammed!) until i got rid of these:

had to take them apart so many times (first suspected the bump stops) until we figured out it was these useless top hats(?) that killed the ride…

and out of boredom here’s a random video of the car in action down my street…

Looks awesome man, Really makes me want go buy an cheap da and build back up like that, I love it

its too bad you dont still have the EF, if it was manual steering you could have used the rack and converted your DA to manual steering.
and yes, running the pump dry is bad, driving the car with fluid in the system and the pump disabled is ok. i dont know if itll seize up over time or not, but you wouldnt want that to happen.

good find tho, the two things in your trunk are what you thought they are, trunk cable and power antennae cable.

looks good for a rust bucket tho man, you might want to start tearing the interior apart to make sure its not rusted through the floor someplace. i dont know how it is in the great white north, but in some states in the US a rusted floor will fail your visual inspection and the car cant be registered to drive.

good luck man, lets see how long you can keep it a cheap daily

what kind of intake is that? (besides it being from a D-series)

looks great man, great find for 200 bucks and the progress is sweet keep it goin

my bet is on the seal on the back of the MC, mine failed and i hit a truck lol

Keep up the good work. Love the rims.

Looks good man, you’re off to a good start on having a clean dd. Anyway, I had a bad leak in my trunk when I got my teg too, I replaced the taillight gaskets and when it still leaked I discovered the sunroof drain hoses had come out of the boots that lead the water out of the teg, so if you still have problems keep that in mind.

thanks man, i was beginning to think no one was going to answer my questions  i still do have the EF so i’m definitely going to look into the manual steering rack swap since my PS is probably beyond repairs at this point (been running dry since april) - i was going to check under the floors but that same reason has kept me from doing so, i really don’t know if i’d sleep at night knowing for sure my floors are rusted… but i figure if the trunk wasn’t bad then the inside should be better (fingers crossed)

it’s definitely passed the point of being cheap daily… i still need to replace both my rear calipers (seized), replace the cv joints/axles, fix the powersteering, fix the AC (don’t really care too much about that though) and fix the rear defrost (only 3 lines work, but i’m not going to worry until winter) and then it’s good! i should’ve just saved up for a better condition DA but what can you do!

it was a no name “ebay” cold air intake for an EG sedan that i cut shorter so it just sat behind the battery instead of going into the fender… the tubing is smaller than the TB though

thanks dude, i love your DA! that header you have is awesome! did yours regain pressure as well? i’ve checked for leaks and i don’t have any and it only happens once every two or three weeks, i can turn the car off and let it chill for awhile get back in and the brakes become stiff again until it repeats two weeks later… a friend told me it could’ve been an air pocket in the brake fluid so i had my brakes bled a week ago, so i’m hoping that’s what it was…

me too  i can’t wait to get my new wheels mounted though!

thanks man, appreciate the info… i don’t have a sunroof though (although i wish i did) but i have heard of leaks coming through the hatch being possible as well? i just hope it’s still dry down there (haven’t checked since i replaced the lights)

anyway… i finally found a set of OEM exhaust tips at the scrapyard from a legend today
