My 91 DA9, Labor of love! I have the 2nd gen bug for sure...

Header, radiator removed. Got the harness ready and various other things unplugged. Cant forget the speedo cable this time.

[SIZE=18px]so my brother was checking out the new engine, and asked me if this is normal. Blue belly has good taste in pistons

Took a few hours because I was doing it myself, but got everything out clean and no damage. I put the type R up on the engine stand so I can start prepping it. And the b17 is getting broken down, taking what I need off it before selling it on to the next person.

Here they are, two badass engines haha if only I could keep both! well I guess i could technically, but that would be greedy…

So ive made some progress on the new swap. Still waiting on a few things as Im sure you know how that goes. But I got the engine painted. I know painting blocks isn’t always a great idea. but this is a weekend toy and it’s garaged most of the time. So I went with something different than the typical aluminum paint. Decided to do pontiac blue, an engine paint I fell in love with a while back. I used 2k clear coat per recommendation from several people

Went ahead and cut the timing cover on my spare valve cover. this will be for tuning etc. i think it came out nice in the pontiac blue

here is a shot of the block with the head on and the valve cover sitting there just to get an idea what it will look like. Getting excited. Next is the trans, just ordered the rebuild kit for my ys1 short gear.

Cant wait ro see it running again time and dedication right there props to you!

you and me both! thanks man

Ended up pulling the head back off and having my buddy help me put new valve stem seals in. We also cleaned up and lapped the valves. so The had should be in really good shape now. Then I decided I didnt like the paint so I sanded it back and painted it with duplicolor cast aluminum. Much better in my opinion. At this point I just need a timing belt and a valve cover gasket. Also restored the dip stick lol! l love the little touches like that

So I finally got my pieces back from getting painted. Buddy of mine painted my spare valve cover, intake manifold, and dizzy cap in frost white. Then hydro dipped with a wood grain graphic, and clear coated in 2K gloss for that extra clean look. Super happy with how it all came together!

Also tried on the skunk2 valve cover dress up hardware. After posting to facebook someone mentioned that they leak! ugh so I guess im gonna sell these and look for something different, probably oem.

kind of an over all shot

Distributor cap just for fun. hand carved!

The type r manifold came out super cool i think

Was able to mount an amplifier under the passenger seat. Just a little 1000 watt to power the 4 speakers I put in a year ago. Finally get to hear what they can do! Never done an amp install before so this was a good learning experience

masked off the engine bay and started spraying that frost white down. there were just a few areas I wanted to “touch up” but as youll see that didnt work out

Here it is after a few coats. The main part where the battery used to be mounted was unpainted as many da/db are from the factory. so this looks so much better

heres a shot of how she sat before I started painting

its the small stuff that I really like to do. These hood hinges were beyond nasty. both sides had rust and buildup. Sanded them down and theyre so much better
