My Endlessss Integra Addiction!

So I believe that I will need your opinions on an idea that I have been pondering for quite sometime now. I’ve been having that itch to modify the GS-R. Most of my close friends say yes and a few say no, leave it stock. Should I ladies and gentlemen? I keep going back and forth. Im currently stuck on stock, but my plans would be to keep it very clean. I would leave the engine stock except for a clean intake setup and name brand header that fits properly. First modification would be a brand new set of PIC coilovers that I have sitting around, 12K front and 10K rear. Next would be spoon sw388 wheels, NSX calipers, then probably an asr rear brace along with a type-r sway bar.

Please help, Thanks

-Drew

I vote for keeping it stock. You show the focus and detail of a man who could pull off an amazing ground up build. Maybe you should start with a shell neglected and bring it back while keeping the gsr immaculate and original as a daily

Thank you dude! Im still waiting to hear from the insurance company to see what I can afford next. They haven’t responded yet, after I sent them the comparables that I found. I found a 91’ GS with 66k miles that I would love to pick-up and swap all of my parts onto.

yo! How do you find these low low mile cars! Haha scoop em up.

I say do whatever you want. She would make a swell DD as is or would be a very nice start to your build. People like to act like DB2’s are collector cars and all that which they are to some degree, but nowhere holy enough to use that as justification keeping it stock. jfarbers immaculate bone stock DB2 was up for sale on forums and ebay for a bit, people just dont want to pay 5+k for 20+ year old cars that aren’t quite classics. I just don;t see the point in keeping it stock if retail value is a consideration.

I say if you start modding it do it lightly, IE bolt ons. Once you put her under the knife and start tucking it is hard to go back to stock. If you have fully working AC and PS, with the car in that condition I almost want to say enjoy her as is but look what I have done to my agp db2 lol. Really no regrets there but everyone is different.

There are these little parts on the car with p61 stickers, dont think they are any better but they are hard to find. Keep your stock airbox if you have it and all those little parts.

I guess thats a point for both sides so far lol. Both very good statements to. Thanks guys. I really love how the car is stock. It feels so smooth when your driving and how it revs, but you can bearly hear vtec. It still has working powersteering and AC so I would aim for leaving those in. Which is why I would only do minor modifications to the engine. No tucking or anything like that. Of course anything done could be converted back to stock if I ever wanted to as well. I want to unlock the true potential of the car though.
I wouldnt mind hearing vtec scream with an intake and header. I wouldnt plan on doing much to it, im not trying to pull power out of the B17; again keeping it very clean. I guess I would be going for some sort of retro mod setup. I just want to make it a little more fun to drive.

Lets take the intake for example. Its a very cool design. Two filters, but the thing has baffles on top of more baffles to keep it quieter, im assuming. Its just sooooo restrictive though. The simple imput of a better flowing intake would prove so much more responsive.

you can always take off the intake resonator in the bumper/wheel well if you want to hear the vtec crossover and the engine bay will still look stock.

I would keep that gsr stock but I am an OEM guy. Maybe just some bigger wheels/wider tires. They are so scarce now and that one you have there looks to be in such good condition it would be nice to keep as is. I have a Aztec green '92 with just a little more mileage (111k) and plan to keep it stock. I just picked up some gsr 15" hammers and it definitely handles even better now

MarcD ! Are you keeping your GSR !? I saw that you posted it up for sale. Yours is really clean too!

Thanks iogearz! Ive considered that before, but last time I figured, if I was taking that out then I may aswell put an aftermarket intake on. Now that you mention it, I might do it anyways. Maybe I could hear a little bit of the K&N drop-in filter doing its job!

I had listed it for sale and had some good offers but for now it is staying put. It is in such good comdition - especially mechanically and such a fun car that I wind up finding myself making excuses just to jump in it and take it for a spin

Keep the GSR and enjoy it man! Its such a fun car to drive!!!

Small update: Turns out that I can actually get good gas mileage in the GS-R lol. On 93 octane pure gas (no ethanol), highway/city driving, I got 30 mpgs. That’s with a few vtech pulls too haha. Which tells me that the car is running great and the catalytic converter is probably not clogged. I was worried about it being clogged because the car is 20 years old!

Recently I noticed that the windshield wipers have a TON of play in them and I stopped using them. So I put Rain-X on the windshield in the meantime, but I decided to pick up some new linkages for whenever I take the wiper arms off to paint them one day. The linkages have new bushings in them which should take care of all that play.

And

When I first got the car it had an issue with the oil pressure light staying on/blinking while driving. Previous owner had already used a manual gauge to check the oil pressure so he knew it was good and replaced the oil pressure sending unit. So I went straight for the ICU when I got the car.

Here’s a picture of when I soldered new capacitor’s into the ICU (Integrated Control Unit) . Problem fixed

Nice job on the capacitor fix. Seems like a lot of the early 90s Hondas had this issue with their capacitors going bad over time. 30mpg is very good, mine s getting about the same- last fill was 29mpg with probably 50/50 mix of driving. Small engine/light car so I guess it should do pretty well…although revving at 4500rpm at 75 can’t be helping either. Haha

haha yes they did! Thank you MarcD!

Small udate for g2ic

I just ordered some new G2IC attire and cant wait for everything to get here. I’ve been missing my forest green hoody all winter becuase I misplaced it!

A short story. I was at work a few days ago when a customer purchased Nissan Ester oil for their 370z, which is around $13 a quart. I looked it up and it got me thinking. Maybe im not putting the BEST oil into my gsr. I currently use Mobil1 10w-30 and I want the original B17 to last for is long as possible. I recently found out that Mobil 1 is no longer a true synthetic unless you purchase their 0w-40.
So I started researching, reading reviews, and looking over Technical data sheets. I looked into Motul, Amsoil, Redline, Torco, and Purol. I started by looking into Purol since bisimoto promotes it now. Long story short it looks like he’s just trying to sell it due to their sponsorship with him. When he supported Torco; it was back when he believed it was a good oil. Purol does not list any Technical data on their oil like other premium oil companies do and they have random people leaving reviews!? lol So Purol is out of the question for now.
I have always heard good things about Torco, but woah is it pricey. That kind of brought it down to Motul, Amsoil, and Redline. Another question I had; is should I go with 5w30 or 10w30 since these oils are supposed to “stick” better. I called Motul and they have great customer service. They explained the 300v race oil in better detail then what ive read and mentioned that it is a “race” oil so naturally it will clean better to keep the engine free of deposits under increased stress. He said 5w-30 should work fine in my engine, but theres a chance that it might smoke due to it cleaning deposits where the rings might be seated, etc etc. Makes since, but my engine is very clean so we will seeeee  I have also read a lot on Amsoil and Redline! A lot of people stand by these products and have done their own oil analysis tests with good results.

I was looking for a True group 4 or 5 synthetic oil. I still have plenty to learn about oil so bear with me here. haha

My main concerns were cold start ups and hitting vtec all the way to 8200.
For now im going to try Redline 10w-30 along with a HAMP or oem honda oil filter.

Im going to start doing oil analysis tests every 3000 miles through blackstone labs to get down to the nitty gritty and really compare the oils and how they are working for my engine.

I will keep you guys posted on the results!

Oil prices (before shipping) as of 1/15/2014 :

Amsoil 10w30 Dominator racing - $59.25 (5 quarts)
Redline 10w30 - $57.44 (5 quarts)
Motul 300v 5w30 - $60~ (4 litres = 4.23 quarts) comes in 2 litres cans
Torco SR-5 5w30 - $107.50 (5 quarts)

Hamp oil filter - $9

Our engines hold a little over 4 quarts. So you will need 5 quarts to get the level just right and to top the oil off as it may or may not burn 1/2 a quart over 3000 miles.

Now for the Transmission. It currently has Honda MTF inside according to the previous owner. Which he changed around 6k miles ago, but the transmission feels notchy and its hard to get into gear sometimes. Especially when it is cold. Syncromesh kept the transmission in my RS alive for over 265k miles, but again im looking for the Best oils to put into the gsr. I ulitmately decided to go with Torco RTF. Im going to use 2 quarts Torco RTF and top it off with syncromesh if I need to. Ill let you guys know the results on how this feels as well. Never been a fan of the Honda MTF  To light in my opinion

2 quarts of Torco RTF - $40

ON ANOTHER NOTE.

Im hoping to pick-up a mint 1991 GS here soon that is all the way in Texas! I would love to begin swapping the parts from my RS, onto this car. Along with the brand new PIC coilovers!

It has around 65k miles. All original except koni suspension, sparco wheels, strut bar, intake and header from what I can tell. Everything is said to work. AC is converted to R134a. Im really excited so im crossing my fingers that everything works out. I need to stop driving the gsr everyday.

wow man! thats great. that thing is really clean:)

Nice pick up! The RS looks clean!

Learning more about oil filters too! lol this is fascinating

http://www.ntpog.org/reviews/filters/old_filters.shtml

Thank you guys! I cant wait to start switching most of the parts over and cleaning it up!

Hey G2IC !!! Well ive got a pretty cool update for you guys. I flew out to Houston, Texas last week to pick up a 1991 Integra GS.
Got to chill with the previous owner for a bit and took a nice 18 hour drive back home the next day! I feel so lucky to own a car this clean and I will try to show it in the next couple of pictures. Every part on this car is oldschool and it has been garaged its entire life!
I’ve washed the outside but have not had a chance to thoroughly clean the inside yet, so please bare with me guys.

Cruising on my way home

That mileage though

Kinda blurry  I need a better camera lol

USDM headlight protectors!

AEM cold air intake with water bypass

Neuspeed header!? Did not know these existed until now

Spoon sports front and rear strut tower bars!!! <3

Un-broken! Awesome

Possibly a Pacesetter axle back? Im not sure, but it sounds good and the tokico’s in the background.

Haven’t been able to find anything on the sway bar, but I am assuming its a 19mm suspension technique? Possibly a Ben Ogle tie bar as well?

More pictures soon to follow!!!

Nice write up. You have way too much time on your hands. As far as oil goes Castrol has never done me wrong. You’ve seen my high mileage gsr. I use it in mu stage 2 wrx as well. I vote you mod your gsr. That is their purpose. I also agree with a previous poster. These cars are not Yenko camaros.
